repair update #308

Let's see. Part of the air intake gasket missing; no header gasket at all; and now take a look at the pics and you will see a hole in the turbo. Now I am starting to understand why my boost gauge doesn't work. Cause there ain't any (LOL).

:devil::devil::devil:

Quit assuming and start reading. Harsh but you need it...

That hole is common on stock turbos. Mine had it and no issue. And don't run a header gasket. Get them milled flat and run copper gasket maker.

Your boost gauge doesn't work for other reasons.

what? im not trying 2 become a expert and write a book in 47 days, i am just trying to get my car to ohio , like everyone else , got a lot to do in a short period of time

Ya after reading what I posted it came off like a dickhead. I didn't mean that in anyway! My point was you are doing it right one part at a time but keep it like that!

For your boost gauge check the map sensor wiring and most importantly the hose to it. It is against the firewall above the passenger side header. If you're hoses are gone it won't work.

Again, sorry!

dont sweat the comment , i have thick skin. while i am no expert on tta's one thing can apply to any car ,one small problem can snowball to alot of them , thats why i keep my eye on the big picture , so at the end of the day i hopefully found what got the ball rolling.i have been dancing with the boost gauge from day one, all the hoses are there and in good shape. ever use a heated o2 sensor ? found one for $ 110 just wondering how good they work.

I think you have to add a 12v wire for a heated O2.
I think they are supposed to work better when the car is cold.

Just run a Denso 234-1001 02 sensor. In fact, I took the heated o2 sensor off of the GN and threw it out. No need...

Jason

I bought mine from sparkplugs.com

nothing special about it. It just works and is cheap. It is the stock replacement btw

What you're going to find is that there are dozens and dozens of "gimmicky" cool guy parts for these turbo Buick V6's. By in large they don't do what they claim to and if they do it generally doesn't help at all or worse, masks a problem that needs seriously fixed.

The heated O2 is on that list,it may go into closed loop faster, but by just maybe a minute and besides, that's just one of the flags that needs set before CL operation.

The heated narrowband O2 gets it's power from a piggyback connector for the EGR solenoid circuit if I recall.

In the our world of hotwire fuel pump, alky pumps, etc. I see NO reason to saddle the charging system with a non-essential,heated, narrowband O2 sensor.

yeah that o2 got stuck in my head because the quality of gas in this neck of woods is pot-luck at best, dont look like its going to get better anytime soon

Boost and bad gas or not enough octane is a bad combination.

The guy working on my car has 8 turbobuick powered cars and all of them have Alky.

Getting into too much boost with bad gas and you could end up with blown headgasket, like me or even worst.:burnrubber:

yeah in 1980, i lived in darlington, sc had a oil filter blow off a 74 sd 455 at 150 mph (u can guess the rest), hopefully i can have some fun with thi s car before i have nut and bolt it:explosion:

Heated 02' were the thing people ran back in the 90's so you could run high octane leaded fuel and still have the 02 sensor live long enough to drive to and from the track.

i understand. i quess when i get the new turbo up and running , install a chip , i'll leave it alone and check- out the alky set-ups in ohio.the turbo should be here today.

I'd buy the alky kit now if you are interested. Julio has one kit left (as of Friday at 9PM) and after that they are going trunk mount.

Just letting ya know.

Mine is trunk mounted, but that's cause it was the SMC design and was my only choice. Why is he changing the design?

I know I got one of the last alky kits with the discontinued tank.

Could the discontinued tank be the reason for the change to a trunk mount?

He said he sold 4 kits in 3 days because of that.

I truly don't even know if the last kit is available anymore.

Rich is right...
