repair update #308

okay,got them turned around they both fell at the same time,the metal gasket was on the left(fender downpipe ) so the lead went to the header , but i still dont think its the right one
 
You've got no worries here...you just need the flat 3 bolt header collector style gasket(which may come with your new turbo) and you need the lead donut gasket that 8289ta showed you.The donut goes inverted in the elbow with the lead portion facing down into the downpipe. It may come apart like yours did, even when new. The installation of the 3 bolt collector gasket is self explanatory.

And of course the oil drain gasket too needs replaced.
 
Yeah and Jerry Reed of Smokey and the Bandit fame was born in Palmetto, Ga. Most of the movie was in Jonesboro, GA about 20 minutes from here. I guess we should start a new celebrity thread. LOL.

My car is in the shop in south Ga, just north of Valdosta, could not find anyone in Fla to repair it. Should be done soon.
 
You know, since your in there and it's easy to get at, I'd be throwing an O2 sensor in it. It's got some Reddish deposits that may mean it has had leaded race gas run through it, making it sluggish in response.
 
good luck with it ,i think thats one of the biggest problems with these cars is people working on them that have no clue what they are doing , even a simple oil change isn't without potential screw- ups

Believe it or not Allan Jackson and Doug Stone are both very home town, down to earth, people. If I knew them peronally and asked them to be there, I think they would. Alan would probably ask for donations to Angels House, which is a charity for battered women in Nenwan, Ga, that his wife Denise is a big sponsor of.
 
It looks like your intake has been off at some point.
It also looks like your wastegate solenoid is mounted to the injector? I have to be seeing that wrong.

nope , you are seeing it right, moved at some point for reason, have a lot of paperwork showing the first owner having problems early on with this car

the wastegate solenoid is mounted to the intake , right over the injector , who knows why.in other news i found a packing list from PVL , INC , royal oak , michigan , for a trans am kit , dated 10-3-89 , interesting

if i am understanding you right, the two gaskets i have pictured go together , which means there was no gasket at all on the 3 bolt collector , what affect would that have if anything ?

Rob - I think the downpipe and the header each get a gasket.
