TTA Diecast

Why do the GTA's cost more than the pace cars?

The 3 cars are all priced exactly the same on supercar1.com. The other sites may be using production numbers as an excuse for the price difference--2200 (or 3500 by some accounts I've seen) TTAs vs. "only" 1500 red and 1500 black GTAs. The biggest thing that comes as a surprise to me is that they made a hardtop body for the GTAs--I would've thought they'd use the same body for all of them to keep production costs down. It's actually cool that they did that though; makes me wish GMP had released some T-top & Astroroof GNs/T Types/Turbo Ts...they were so concerned about keeping costs down that at least one of the models they released had the incorrect interior color though, and the 1:24 scale T Type/Turbo T models shouldn't have had the rear decklid spoiler but did because they used the GN/GNX body for them...

Do you have any pictures of any of the GN/GNX or t-type die-cast cars?

I have several diecast turbo Buicks:

1:18 scale:
-1987 Grand National--this is the first one GMP came out with. A buddy of mine bought a case of these in 1999 for about $60 or so apiece and I acquired mine from him out of that case. Worth some $$$$ now; I've seen them go for as much as $400.
-GNX
-GNX XRAY
-Lawrence Conley's "Tweaked" drag car
-I recently bought a gray 1987 Turbo T in this size but traded it to a local friend for parts for my real GN...:bye2:

1:24 scale:
-2 1987 Grand Nationals (one of which is going to my nephew for Christmas)
-GNX
-White 1987 Turbo T w/ burgundy interior

1:64 scale:
I have about 15 different turbo Buicks in this size, plus the GMP Grand National and GNX semi trucks.

HO scale:
I have a Grand National in this size (intended to be used on an HO model railroad set)

The 1:24 scale models GMP made are absolutely superb with exception of the couple of things I listed in my earlier post. They have much more detail than the earlier & larger 1:18 scale versions, right down to actual floormats you have to put in with tweezers, felt "carpet", cloth seatbelts, sunvisors that flip down, and keys dangling from the ignition. I can take pictures if you want--what did you want to see specifically?

Ok, I'm stumped. I got this email from MTR: "This model should come in stock within a week or two. We hope to have all our pre-orders shipped by 10/03."

WTH???

Any of them would be cool. Do you have them posted somewhere with a link?

Here is another picture I found on ebay...is that a black seat belt??

T-top straps, but no t-top bag. I didn't know they where putting the lights in the wing?DontKnow:

That was brought up on turbobuick.com a while back. That had to be included to make it more "Indy Pace Car" per the Indy Licensing.

I don't know if I've ever seen a diecast with the radio antenna, maybe it's just me.

One thing I don't like, the reverse lights have too much white.

I'm just going to guess but those pictures look like the final prototype (could be production and they just made small changes if any) which still had changes to be made to it. The black seatbelts was something that I stressed the most that needed to be changed, hopefully they did.

Just remember Jared (72firebird) worked with them to make this car. So if anything is not right next time you see Jared beat the hell out of him with a rubber hose! Then again I do that just for fun to him! :D I keep looking out the window for the UPS guy.., WHERE THE HELL IS HE!!! :D

Here you go RatFink--please excuse the dust on the models; my wife and I both work a lot so a couple areas of the house sometimes get neglected, not to mention I'm a bit leery of these models getting "overhandled":

http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa308/24vCTD/diecast%20models/

If you click on the thumbnails to open up the larger versions and scroll down underneath them I added some commentary on most of them to point out many details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Now I must go cry, as I broke my green "Tweaked" model (seen in one of the photos pre-accident). I lifted it up to get the 1:24 GN underneath it out, and dropped it causing the driver's side a-pillar and windshield to get smashed in.:( This is exactly why I don't like handling my models a whole lot...I thought it would be fun to show them off a bit (which it still is) but this really sux...

I purchased two of them off eBay and they arrived yesterday. The seat belts are black....

I have not have pulled them out of the box yet. Funny the t-top bag is missing but the straps to keep the bag secure are in place..

The car looks good and alot like my number 90, except for the actual pace light strobes in the rear spoiler.

Were these to be numbered? If so where is the number? It is not on the rear license plate.

If they are numbered I am looking for #90.

Very nice and nice number! :) Are you happy with it? Pick it apart and let us know the pro's and con's! I have my camera ready and waiting for when they show up!

Yeah, take that thing apart like I did with my Tweaked car:

That way we can all see what makes 'em tick!:D

J/K, I'm working on straightening the bent a-pillar on it and a member of turbobuick.com said he may have a window piece from a model his kid ruined that I can use! Not much I can do about the scuffed paint on the pillar since I'd have a heck of a time matching that funky green but maybe this model can be saved!

Man that pisses e off about the black belts. I knew the T-top bag wouldn't be in there, we discussed trying to do it but to be honest there was no good way to include it.

For the seatbelts I'll probably be taking one of mine apart to see about replacing them with tan material. It's going to be a while until I get the chance to do it but if it's relatively simple I'll offer the material to everyone on here for free (assuming it's not extremely expensive for some reason).

Here's a thread for you guys to post your TTA model's serial number on so people can find it easily. It's been made into a sticky in the History and Memorabilia forum:

http://www.turbotransam.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2848

Also, just a tip:

The t-tops on these models come off as one piece that goes all the way across the roof. To remove it, lift straight up on it. I wasn't sure how it came off and as a result I snapped off the 2 tabs on the front edge of the t-top piece. It still has 4 tabs on the back edge and looks fine sitting on the car the way it is, but if the owner of TTA #578 finds me and wants to make a trade I'll tell him to keep his t-top piece and just trade the rest of the car.

My TTA model is very nice; better than I actually expected. Not quite up to the standards of the GMP turbo Buick models I have IMHO, but you must remember I also paid twice as much as this TTA model for most of them.
