Scott Kelly's Website comments

Scott,

Just to thank you for posting the VIN list on your site, I posted the link in it's own post and made some of my comments around it: TTA Serial Numbers On-Line - PAS Inc Website - Turbo Trans Am Forum

Also the team on here pulled together and put it all into electronic form that's been much appreciated and we can see the potential when other docemnts are made avalible and we can cross link the information, see: TTA Vin List - Excel and PDF format - Turbo Trans Am Forum

So you can see we are all interested to help and will find a way to make the information useful for us all :-)

Also scanned the 87 LC2 Engine Description Manual from BOC - Flint (so this one is for the Grand National) The 1987 LC2 Engine Description Manual - BOC Flint Factory - Turbo Trans Am Forum ... and this would be worth gold for us when you have time to scan the 89 LC2 Engine Description Manual as used by you and PAS at the time ... excellent help for any of us putting our engines back together or to learn more of the mechancial side. So this along with the assembly line docs (@ PAS that is) will be of alot of help for us.

Also the inspection documents and the details around them to help us route things like the wireharnesses, radiator hoses and other critical items correct that you PAS checked before final delivery will be very useful.

Again thanks for all the insights sofar and you see there's a good team on this board willing to help and that really value the information you share with us all.

Hi Guys,

I'm still here but have been busy with my "day job".

Jan, your pdf of the vins looks pretty good. Could you make a column for interior and one for roof? This will help when you get someone to put the whole thing into Access. I have one printout for all the cloth and one for all the leather cars that i will scan next. At quick glance the thing that I see incorrect is that the four pilot cars were t-top cloth and the one was leather hardtop. We had to build both styles to verify the systems for Pilot. After the cars were built, the hardtop was used at our plant by Pat Glover, the plant manager. The other 4 were used for magazine/press duty until the production cars were built. 213666 was used by me and was not converted until the summer of 89. I may have something with a date on it for when Jeff sent it over. This car was converted in Michigan at the ASC engineering facility, not in California.

On the car for BOC, I seem to remember that they ordered it for their management to play with because we were trying to convince them to build more of the TTAs for 1991 and the Syclone.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Woodward cruise this year!

Thanks Scott,

The Excel spreadsheet can easily be imported into Access then put on line so the more info we can include the better :-)

Sorry about the pilot cars (t-top/cloth) I knew that as I already had that info ... corrected :-)

For the ASC builds, I have the details from ASC's records and included that for Pilot no 3.

Also included columns for roof and interior trim, see attached sample (only first 2 pages); let me know if this will work ... any other info you have like the dealer codes I can cross reference in a Access database when we get that far, and actual ship and build dates (both GM and PAS) would be great to include as well.

Thanks for clarifying the BOC shipped TTA that's pretty much what I thought.

There's an "odd-ball" in there as well if you look at no 205 ... very late build but very early in the list, how come that happened?

Thanks for providing all the vital information about the TTA's

Attached is the PDF sample updated per above.

Regards

Jan

Scott,

I recently bought a set of plug wires from a guy on ebay, he had several sets of just the left side (driver side) set and these are original brand new OEM wires with the writing and all on them.

Funny thing is that the plug boot is angled 45 degree's (or 225 if you like) and I just noticed when I got them.

Did you receive any defective plug wires from Packard back in the days? These must be manufacturer rejects as they not been altered and are brand new.

Regards,

Jan

Scott,

One of the TTA's listed on ebay have a sticker pictured as part of the documentation (see below) that puzzles us somewhat.

Would you know if this was put onto the windscreen or somewhere else when the cars left Van Nuys?

Looking at this picture from your facility (City of Industry) Scott,

Looking at this picture form your City of Industry facility http://www.pasincorporated.com/_Media/slide25.jpeg there's what looks like a square sticker and a couple of round ones on the windscreen (driver side); there's what looks like a square sticker and a couple of round ones on the windscreen (driver side); do you have a good photo of those or can you explain what they were and the purpose of their use?

Thanks for clarifying this.

Reading all this and perusing Scott's site makes me wish I wasn't just a dumb kid back in '89. My buddy's hot sister had an '85 GTA and it looked so good but, alas, I had no knowledge of it's kin until much later in life.

Chris,
They didn't make a GTA, until 1987.
If it was a 1985, it was just a Trans Am.

Just letting you know,

George :beach:

Hi Jan,

I would be curious to who sold these to you on ebay. These were prototypes that were made for me to verify the lettering. I wanted the lettering on them and these samples were made off the wheels that roll the lettering on to the raw wire before being cut to lenght. I have talked to Packard/Delphi to make these again but this time I will own the tooling so I can also make sets for the TTA owners in the future.

Have a great day,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Interesting piece of history there. I've sent you a PM.

Hey Jan,

Hello Scott
I'm the TTA owner that you spoke too on Wednesday night on Woodward. The comment about the TTAs being built in CA had to come form someone that was really into these cars not just a novice! Anyway it was cool meeting you!

Hi Scott,

Just following up with you, any luck on finding and/or scanning the document with the Pontiac Dealer Codes so we can cross reference the dealers where the TTA's were originally purchased at?

Thanks again for all the help, history and knowledge of our beloved TTA's.

Can't wait to be able to purchase the plug wires to put on the TTA's too. They will look so much better than the aftermarket ones.

Kris

Hi Scott,

I have #603 and am the one who had the car in to be painted and they took the stickers off the driver's side door. You said that possibly sometime in the Spring of 2012 you could reprodue those for me and write a letter stating they were authentic. I know you are extremely busy and it would really mean a lot to me to have those back on my car. So, if it is still a possibility, I will happily wait until you have a chance to do that. Thanks. Lynn

Hi Scott, hope things are well ... been a while.

Anyway was talking to some people a while back and the question came up of the TTA project had a "project name" of some sort @ PAS or GM?

Also did you guys refer to the cars as TTA's, Turbo GTA's, Turbo TA's or similar in your daily conversations and or when taking notes etc? Same goes for GM did they have a nick name or similar they used?

Just came up when we said all of us refer to our cars as a TTA but would be interesting to know what was the actual names used back in the days.

Best Regards

Jan

Scott,

Did you install the rear seatbacks @ your facility in City of Industry?

Reason for asking is that the assembly line worksheet states "DEL REAR BACK" and I also remember Winstorm in Tx that bought all the left over emblems and other bits also had some rear seat backs for sale maybe 10 years ago (unfortunatly I did not pick up a pair due to shipping cost to the UK).

Best Regards

Jan

I did PM this question to Scott....I was just wondering what all considerations were made when selecting/developing the power plant for these beasts; I would love to hear Scott elaborate on the engine selection/development. I remember back in the day reading my Chilton (still have it) and glancing at the 6cyl VIN and not making anything of it...I had no idea about the TTA cars as my H engine was the fastest AND best thing in the world...I thought :) If this has been covered in detail I would love a redirect to the source. Thanks.

I don't think they had too much to play with rather get what they were given working :-)

Anyway here's some really good info on the project and engine development etc from Bill and Scott ... Re-Union Q and A Session Recording Available - Turbo Trans Am Forum

Scott,

With regards to the nose / front bumper emblem.

That was installed @ Van Nuys based on the fact it uses the stud and speed-nut on there; you can see in the photos from the Van Nuys plants they are installed on the front fascia of all TTAs.

At what point in the production process where these installed?

For the positive and negative battery cables.

Where these installed @ PAS as part of the power module (part of the engine harness)?

Reason for my question is the fact that the build sheets for the TTA don't list the battery cables code as they do for all other cars built @ Van Nuys where they were picked out of a parts bin and installed on the cars.

pasincorporated.com been down for a while ... wonder if there's some updates happening to the site or not? Or some other issues?
