Recently Purchased Lynn Brown Car #1475

Hello,
New member here, first post and proud to be an owner of a TTA. I have been reading many posts made on this forum back many years. I recently bought a car previously owned by member Lynn Brown. I am not sure how to search for old posts and communications possibly made by Lynn, but I have my hands full trying to get this car that has been parked possibly 10-15 years from what I was told by the seller. Perhaps some of you may know him.

There are all kinds of wiring and things done years ago. I am simply trying to get the car running and put back to stock as much as possible. I have my hands full. Trying to find any history I can on the car. It came with no manual, no service records, nothing at all. All fluids in the car stale/dirty/low and likely typical for car parked a long time. As I have worked to clean the car, do some fluid, filter, vacuum leak search, and hose changing I have no turbo boost/gauge not working (as I see many have posted about over the years). Nobody I have asked seems to know what size/type of injectors the car has. It has a Turbonetics 60 turbo which seems to ok from visual inspection, wastegate actuator moves at 10-11 psi.

Before I changed the oil filter I noticed fresh oil leaking below it. I tried to tighten both nuts on the sending unit but they are tight. Put new filter on, still leaking fresh oil from under the filter, hard to tell if from filter seal or the sending unit below it or both. Is this a common thing? What is the fix?

Just looking for anyone with any knowledge about this specific car or just in general that may help me get it running like it should.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Jay

The oil pressure sending unit is most likely leaking from the plastic housing.

Regarding the oil sending unit, mine looks to be metal/aluminum/steel and not plastic. Is this original or was the plastic the original?

Made some progress today. I have been looking all over for an exhaust leak. Found the main one which was covered up by a bunch of insulation/wrap. See the big crack on manifold under sparkplug #4. I am guessing I need to remove and have welded as I would doubt anyone has this part they would not want.
The turbo did engage today, delayed response but it did kick in. Found code #13 when I scanned it, says O2 Sensor/Exhaust Leak.
Thank you

As I continue to clean up things take a look at these brake lines. They look normal and in good condition under the car and to the brakes. What I do not understand is why would someone do this to these brake lines? Anyone have any idea why and what I need to do to get them back to the way they should be? This one is baffling to me. I have not taken the car to a brake shop yet. Car is not ready for a short road trip into town, lol.

Possibly for a line lock setup

I removed the passenger side headers. Very strange looking header. It is no wonder the turbo would not engage as it has two large cracks. I also noticed there was NO gasket. There should be a gasket on this, correct? Anyone have any suggestions where to find a gasket as I wait to have the cracks welded? Thank you.

No, they didn’t come with a gasket between the turbo and header pipe. They do make a copper gasket that works well if necessary.

Metal is original, most leaks in that area come from the sending unit.

I am talking about the gasket for the area between the header and the motor. See attached. See below one I found on Ebay.

Turns out we had two areas cracked. Got it tig welded and going back on the car as soon as the gaskets between the header and motor come in.
