New Garage

Concrete was poured, has been curing for about 10 days. Hope to get the cars in there soon. Rain forecast for about 4 days straight thanks to hurricane Isaac. Utilities are being relocated from old structure. Things seem to be moving slowly now. Have the dividing wall for the office-man cave done. Lots of storage above that for all the junk. lol

Toys waiting to go back in the shop.

Look's good Kymmee, i'm about to start on mine and i will do 85% of the work myself... not that i want to mine you... but i will...:teehee:

A lot has happened in a month since my last post. The contractor has fulfilled his obligations so Scott and I have been working on the garage pretty much every free moment. We have gotten the slag spread out in front and the driveway part. We also hauled in top soil and graded and landscaped the exterior, and did the spouting drainage. Just got the grass seed down a few days ago. On the interior, the insulation is almost done except for the ends. We are using white metal on the interior, it is ordered. Put the cars in there temporarily, as these 2 werent being stored in the best conditions. The 2 Trans Ams are still in the brick garage for now. Still a long way to go, but its getting there.

Look's good Kimmee, one problem, 56' long, 5" gutter with one downspout on a metal roof? trust me that won't work: the water will go over it like it wasn't there... if only you wasn't so far away... anyhow looks like you are about done and i'm just starting....:(

Thanks for the input-I know you are a gutter (no pun intended)guy. We have had some pretty good downpours-havent noticed any puddles or muddy spots-but I will watch next time it rains real hard. What is your recommendation?

FYI-yes you have a long road ahead with your project-dont look at the end result-just feel good that everyday you have gotten something done in the process. :)

You need a 6" gutter with a 3x4 d/spout on each end, i never run over 40' on a single d/s and shingle roof where you have 56' on a single 2x3 d/s, 5" gutter and metal roof (water come's off 3 time's faster on metal), also you can crown the gutter in the middle and pitch to each end vs. jacking up on one end to run all the water the other way...Btw i ran a ad in local paper today for more help otherwise i will never get this garage done...:wall:

Interior looking good!
I never thought of running the sheet metal panels "horizontally" on the walls... how long are the pieces?
(We did my ceiling with 12 footers, but am working on insulating/covering the walls with scrap pieces little by little or as I can justify a few pennies at a time. No climate control at all.)

Running vertical would have been much easier, but the panels are 38" wide with 36" coverage. So in order to do it that way, we would have had to either put purlins in between (6" stud walls on 24" centers) or cover it all with OSB first. It would have really run up the cost. As for the metal, we ordered it from an Amish place and they will cut any length you want. The longest we could handle was 16 footers (believe me they are HEAVY), we also got 10's, 12's and 8's. The machine screws you use run every other rib and every rib on a seam. Its pretty simplistic once you get the pattern in your head. I think the hortizontal way is a really clean look.

Can't say that i ever seen anyone do it that way but it looks good... those panels look white, white cars ,hit the lights and you will be snowblind! very cool!

we used a real "rube goldberg" arrangement with a scaffold to stand on and a "Genie" lift to put the 12 ft pieces on the ceiling... I can fully respect the weight of those 16 ft pieces :eeks:

The "horizontal" on the walls is a good look!

i had a contractor look at my house said no money was to be made ... so i guess im going to self contract the rest an save 60k

We own our own scaffolding but rented a 17ft sscissor lift. Helps quite a bit for the celing. The ceiling has been the toughest part, because of it being scissor trusses. My arm muscles are about spent.

We got a quote for contractors to do the interior metal. The material is running us about 2.5-3k. The quote was (material and labor) was 3 times that. With that said, we will do it ourselves. Savings will buy the lifts.:) Sometimes you're better off doing things yourself.

ty for saying that . I dont want to cheap way out on this house but get the best bang for my buck ... its drywall cabnets, tile an im done ... will nevr buid a new house agin! contractors cost plus 40-50% f that
