Jim Dunn built an GN powered IROC Z way back in late 80's in white .. It was in the 11's.
Hey guys Steve Kaminski did the swap for me when I was 23.
I bought it new 1989,when I was 20 years old. Traded in a 1986 Trans Am-black/gold,screaming eagle,ttops & a five speed.:headbang:
The Iroc was a 5.7 TPI with 2.77 gears. It ran a 14.50@93,stock??
In the next couple years I managed to twist Steve's arm to add some bolt on's to the TPI & a 3.45 rear out of a TPI 5 speed car. It ran a 13.80@100 on the radials. "Twisted his arm" because, he said I was wasting my time with the v8. He was a few years into his Buick Turbo obsession,with a swap already performed on his 85 TA & his then girlfriends 1989 Formula 350 Firebird. He said you need a GN motor in that thing.Well with 28,000 miles on the clock & still making payments,out came the 5.7 & in went a TTA motor!
My Father almost had a heart attack,seeing a nearly new car coming apart!!
It ran a 11.73@114 its first time out. It was in Turbo Magazine twice ,Buick news letters & on My Classic Car.The car is still local with only 43,000 miles on it. It has had a few hand on it
, since Steve built it and I sold it 1996,but is still super clean.
Back then if you went street racing in Philly,you better look out for any Buick powered F body's that crossed your path or any Buick turbo Steve touched!
Those where the days ,we had so much fun.
In the early years you could street race till 3-4am & the police never even showed up!
