Car wont start..

Hi everyone, how are you? I was wondering if anyone can help. I have put my car away for winter and disconnected the battery. I put the battery back on the other day to start the car for a little while. When I connected the battery, there was a spark from the positive terminal when I connected it.

The other problem, is when I went to start the car, the car would not start. The started started to turn, but it seemed like it was getting stuck and would not turn over. You think I need to replace the starter? Or is there something else I am missing. The car has 12,000 miles on it. Before I put it away for winter, I had no problems.. Could the started freeze up because of the cold temp? Thanks..any help would be great..

The reason for the spark when you reconnected it could be the fact you had the door open or the power hatch was in the up position and either of these would start to draw current when you reconnect the battery. Have you tried charging the battery to make sure it is fully charged? With the battery connected do the lights work? This could tell you the battery is dead if the lights are dim or headlights move slow. Try the simple things first before replacing the starter.

I agree with Mike, sounds like a battery issue. Charge it for 48 hours then try. If there was nothing wrong before what could really have changed since then?( other than bat).

Yep if the battery been sitting not being charged / maintained I would charge it up properly and then try ... if still an issue I would try a known good battery before digging it to it.

And yes slight spark when connecting the battery is normal as Mike pointed out.

The battery was dead...so I tried jumping the car with my truck, but still the starter would not start the car... I will try charging the battery for 48 hrs. To see if that works... I just figured it should start while jumping it but no luck.... Thanks for the replies...

Slow charge the batt. until full charge, very simple, also a very simple way to burn up the alt.@starter if you don't, the alt. is not designed to charge the batt. only to maintain the charge.
