TTA Underhood Insulators

I remember Steve TTA850 posting a pix of his hood insulator a while back.
Cost was between 50-100 dollars if I am not mistaken.

I do not want the one at Car Motorsports due to it's price.

Thanks Pal!

Classic Industries: TTA Hood Insulator (1) - $32.52 shipped

Allensfasteners: Retainers (15) - $9.15 shipped

Slowboy Racing: DEI Reflect-A-Cool Sheet (1) - $16.08 shipped

Items cost $57.75 shipped to my house. I thought it would be much worse. I am going to put the DEI cool sheet (12" x 12") behind the hood insulator, which will line up over the turbo exhaust housing/turbo when the hood is closed. Reflect-A-Cool will reflect up to 1000 degrees F. and will protect against a direct continuous temperature of 400 degrees F.

I am not using a heat shield fyi. Just not a big fan of them.

How is the REM hood insulation? I was looking to order it for my 1982 but I heard it is too thick. Did you install it yet? Can you get a pic of it installed?

I installed it a few months ago, I never noticed it being too thick, would rather have it a little thick rather than too thin. Went on fine with the push retainers. Will take a pic when I can.

Thanks for the pix TTA984:cheers: You have been so helpful today.

Looks like it's built well for sure!

Thanks for the pics - it looks good. The original one for my 82 TA looked alot like that - although the one from the TTA looks like it is molded and stiffer than the replacement.

Just put on my new one (Christmas present), its a lot thicker & better quality than I thought it would be. Looks great too...

So this one that says "Turbo", is it from Classic Industries? If not, where can I order one? What is the part number?

I have been going back and forth about this for a week. I went ahead and ordered the "Turbo" w/bird yesterday. Sticker shock for sure! Got a little extra cash coming my way, so I spent it! I just felt I really wouldnt be happy with any of the other choices and I saw some of you had them at the TTA reunion and they looked really good!

AND IMPORTANT ... the area just above the turbo gets VERY HOT and WILL melt the felt on the hoodliner (from carmotorsports.com) after a while specially if it touches ... ask me how I know :-(

I suggest getting some heatresistant reflective material and use velcro or similar to put it onto the hoodliner while driving then remove for show ... I done this to mine however still have to sort out the burnhole I got on mine ..

So yes it looks great and will last (I had mine for 6 or so years but don't drive mine that much) however as mentioned above it does not like the heat form the Turbo :-(

ya mine has a very big burn hole from when I drove without a heat sheild on the turbo. That was dumb. live and learn. everywhere else it looks good though except above the turbo. I am thinkin of gettin a new one.

Thanks for the balanced reviews. My basic objective is to make the hood insulation generally match the theme of my engine which is similar to stock appearing. So to match my normal (but mostly clean and new looking) engine, new stock hood insulation is probably the best pick for me.

The small price of a stock blanket (about $26) also allows me to go for the expensive pad ($274) if I ever change my mind. Wow. When you thinkg about it: 10X more expensive...!
