Rice goes good with steak or chicken, but yeah, I'm not a fan of the "fast and furious" movies. More like the "slow and stupid". Not a fan of that attitude either. But the cobalt ss offers a nice motor with intercooled turbo, for me it's techy enough to be interesting and could probably be finessed into a mid 13 1/4 mile car with relatively little input. Warranty, gas mileage, and if it get's backed over by a dump truck, no problem..dime a dozen. Park it in a mall parking lot and never look back. Still a fun car with little headache and can be easily parked in the city. So I took the yellow car from the auto show and tried to "de-rice" it. If I take the wing off and get a conservative color, it'll almost look like my Camry.

I love the GXP Bonnevilles, problem is...the Northstar engine. Cadillac must really feel they have something there. Tons and tons of warranty problems. Maybe they feel it's getting the problems worked out.
The joke around these Caddy dealerships is that it's rare to see a Northstar in the engine bay. Great engine...when it runs.
OK you are right. My dealership has not seen any Bonneville GXP's in the service department. However GM did require me to buy a kit to re-thread the cylinder head bolts for every head gasket job we do. Cadillac "claims" they got the issue fixed in the later model northstars. Only the future will tell!
I guess WS6 is probably right to be concerned, lets drop that from #3 to #6 or #7, lol!

I liked the 1999ish Bonneville w/ SSE pkg. Handled great and averaged 28-29 on the highway w/ the 3.8L. They were 40 G's brand new.:thumbup: You can find them CHEAP now and they are a lot of car for your money w/ decent mileage and exceptional handling. I want another, I am getting sick of my litto Honda.:yes: Bump my big head every time I get in.
:whs: I'm still pretty happy with my '97 40th Anniv. Bonnie SSEi. Plenty of headroom even with the sunroof, loaded with options inc. HUD, adj. suspension, BOSE, etc. Decent power and I've surprised a few people with it. Have gotten over 30+mpg on several occassions with a best of 35mpg! This was with over 140k on the clock!
I love the look of the Bonnie GXP but the Northstar was a negative in my book. My brother is a master tech for Cadillac and does not give that motor his seal of approval. I wish they would've stuck the 5.3L LS4 from the GP GXP in the Bonnie, then they would've had my vote. I always thought it was silly that they put that Northstar in with 275hp when a 3800 SC Series III would've been 260hp.
Thought about doing an '02-'03 SSEi but felt a bit cramped in the car. Plus for the price you can get an '06-'07 GP GT for a bit more still under warranty and with 20 more hp. Just my opinion. :cheers:

Consider him lucky. Most Cadillacs have issues once they get any more than a few years old. I've got two sevilles on my lot right now. One has a bad headgasket at 93,000 which will cost me a few grand to fix (at internal cost). The other one with 87,000 will only turn right on occation (bad steering rack), has a service suspension light, and a service A/C light on all at the same time. Northstar issues are not exclusive to the bonneville.

I drive a SRT4 as a daily driver...avg 26mpg around town 3/4 and 1/4 highway time. 35mpg highway only at 85mph (I'm in Germany). 17mpg at 140mph.
It's a great car...a bit loud (had to install quieter performance exhaust). They're starting to be available cheap too.
Cool, any pics? Have you turned the boost up on it? Friend of mine just put alky injection on his SRT-4 after I told him about how much it helped the TTA.
He's got a bigger intercooler for it and some other stuff. Runs low 13's

Those neons can run 140 MPH consistantly or are you WOT holding that? I would hate to have a wreck at 140 in it though..could get ugly!

That was one of my deciding factors for a small commuter car, "SAFETY" As much as I like the SRT-4 crash test were poor http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=382 I figure If have to drive long distance to work and not have the size of the Ram to back me up, I need all the help I can get The Honda was safer, and will hold value. If I want to race, out comes the TTA:burnrubber:

I diffinetly recommand buying the new turbo chevy cobalt SS as a daily driver !! My brother just bought one as a daily driver to go back and fourth to work with and just to have something new to mess around with. Its one of the cheapest NEW car's out there with a turbo and goes 13.90's stock and gets 30 miles to the galloon the thing has a launch mode in it , you press a button and you can launch the car it's pretty neat . The car itself is quick and nice to drive around in and stops on a dime with those brembo breaks on it . Anyways goodluck man . I diffinetly recommand you buying one. Go and test drive one and see what you think. :thumbup:
