WTF: What is the Value of a TTA.....

Back in 2010 when I got my TTA in Tennessee,I had a choice of a 87 GN, GMC Typhoon or the TTA and I selected the TTA. I have been happy with my choice. But I should have got one of the others also before they were sold!

In the third pic is a Lesabre GN in front of the TTA, only about 117 of these were made.

I bought my car to drive and enjoy. Its still the fastest TA I've driven. I remember test driving one at dealer when new.
Im currently converting #364 to a ASC convertible. When I'm finished i don't care what's it's worth just that i can go in garage, put the top down on my Turbo TA convertible and cruise and relax on sunday.

They didn't make an 85 Hurst Olds. 80's cars really don't get any respect so we might as well drive them. I'm just happy that they aren't worthless like the majority of the cars made in the 80's

Friend of mine's mom had one. I still like these:

Nice to know someone else likes "The Cult" and actually listens to their music. I burned a CD with some of my fav 80's tunes and have "Love Removal Machine" on it. Your band do a lot of 80's stuff?

Yeah, Love Removal Machine is a good one!. Their stuff since 2000 is different, but still good. My band plays all kinds of stuff. Steve Earl, Dillon, Stones, Albert King, Buddy Guy, The Blasters, The Church, Mearle Haggard, Jason & The Scorchers and even some Bluegrass.

Still want a Typhoon. Here is a link to a thread to a Syclone/Typhoon show a few years back. Some very cool rides:

That was a fun thread to see again!

I've looked at a hand full of Typhoon's in the last couple of years and just can't seem to pull the trigger.

I had an 83 H/O. Daily driver for 5 years and sold it for exactly what I paid. That's the only car I can say that about. Sold it and bought a Jaguar. Single biggest automotive mistake I've ever made.

I love GN's, but there sure are a lot of them compared to the TTA. My wife points that out constantly.

The GN's seem to hold their value better though. Which leaves me wondering...
if you have had a GN for a few years, then you are aware of the TTA...but if your a new guy to this stuff and you mention to another gear head, "I'd like to get a turbo car, maybe a GN, but they cost a bit more than I'd like to pay for a 20+ car" ...well
you would think that someone would chime in and say, " you do know that a sexier version is available that doesn't fall off a curvy road at 50mph+"

You would think... the info would be out by now:read:

At the current rate, some day a GN drivetrain will cost more than a complete TTA with the same mileage :). Yeah I have a couple of TTAs so I'll have a spare motor or two for my GN :D

My brothers thing serious about taking his 96GS callaway #1 of 4 450hp Supernaturals

If he takes his car to BJ in Scottsdale .. I might take the TTA#299 ... im looking for a low mile TT 97 supra

Yea I've noticed over the years that GN's are bringing more money than expected. I recall waiting for GN's to dip under 10K for a low mile example, but it never really happened across the board. I'm certian some good deals were made early on. Do you think in the collector hobby there is still the stigma of the Buick motor in a Pontiac?

My Dad got his 12k mile astroroof at a steal 6yrs ago. still has factory tires on factory wheels 90% tread

What is an astro roof?

The Astroroof option (RPO code CF5) was the power sunroof.

Its simply a matter of perception. Pontiac guys don't like the car cause its a 'GN' motor in it. GN guys don't like it cause its a Pontiac. Its that simple. The car is an outstanding car as we all know but the perception of the general public is not good with the car and no one wants em, Its really that simple. Its supply and demand. Supply is there but the demand is not which equals low price.

Yeah...kinda the same problem the C4 ZR1s have....Corvette purists won't accept them due to the engine. I'm still a little baffled though.......no too many years ago, the TTA seemed to command more money than a similar mile GN.....not sure what is driving the downfall of the value for the TTA. I still think, however, a mint, low mile TTA will still bring mid to upper 20s at a Mecum or BJ Auction.

Personally i think the number -one all out major problem with these car's is a serious lack of knowledgeable people who know how to work on them, that explain's the large amount of TTA'S in various state's of disrepair for sale cheap ,....@ i'm alway's the last to find good deal's though ,... add all the other factor's in and one can see where the problems are start to end..

I agree robert I have 1 GN low mileage an 1 TTA low mileage all stock an figured i should leave it alone after buying my first GN. Then I bought a DD TTA to play with ... a spare engine 20k mile long block with a 20k trans... then got both trans rebuilt with full billet peices like I have in 1397 out of julios car.... I think the TTA is worth more imo but public thinks GN ... I have collected as much TTA memrobilla as had came up ....

Yeah, stock for stock the TTA would run circles around the GN.

Wow at this prices I might pick up another fixer upper. Theres just so many that are left for dead, and cost so much to get back in shape. I can see why some one would rather sell though instead of fixing the car, $$$. I'll be around 6-8k in, thats without the cost of the car, and me and my brother and friends doing the work, no labor to pay. I can see were some one that has to pay for some one to do the work, will be way over their head, and call it quits.
But these prices are hurting these cars.

I own a GN as well as the my TTA,bought the TTA back in Feb this year,100% stock orig, paint, exhaust, all except tires,15k miles.Have only put on 300 miles on it.I love low mile, orig survivor type cars, but as far as the TTA,I actually enjoy driving my GN better for the reasons being,it is an 80k mile car,I already painted it,have mods done to it(high 11 sec-12.00 car),so blows away my stock TTA as far as power goes, and more comfortable of a ride.
Don't want to rack the miles up on the TTA,and want to keep the stone chips away from it.It is a double edge sword, would love to drive it more, but being one of the mint low mile examples, resist driving .Sometimes I wish I bought a 40k up mile one so I would'nt feel bad about putting 1k a year on.
Saying it in a weird way,I love looking at it more than driving it !!A quick drive around town,10 miles or so,is what I have done with it.
As far as value, you should be in the hobby for the love of it,not the resale.

I like the idea of having 2 TTA's. One with some miles to drive and the other a really low mile original everything to take to car shows. The low mile car will get the most respect, most of the time.

Well said.

I agree, it would be nice to own 2 TTA's, one to drive and one to "save". But if you only have so much room for storage, I would rather own different types of cars, as I do. My TTA has mid range mileage and I only drive about 500 miles a season. The perception of it at the shows I've been to is, it is well received even with the mileage it has. It looks nice, but if someome would get picky and look underneath, no, its not as clean as a less than 10k example.

This thread has taken an interesting turn. I bought my TTA as more of a driver then a show stopper. Just changed the original tires a few weeks ago and it is considerably more enjoyable to drive. Bought it in 09 w 27K and I've got just about 32,500 miles now. I do enjoy the car! I like the practicality that it offers while still being fun to drive. It gets over 20mpg constantly and has gone 12.50 with the current tune. Only problem there is it needs good fuel. I looked at a few low mile cars before deciding on mine. Anything under 10K is nice to look at but I couldn't drive it.

I give respect to the people keeping everything OG, I couldnt do it. I like to add mods and drive it, even if I had 2 TTA's, they both would be drivers. But all the respect to the people that keep their TTA's in storage and OG.
