Help,I'm stuck in the 80s
I just read Quiky One's thread. What a coincidence, I'm still wet from trying to put my plow on my pickup truck in the rain. Passenger side just wouldn't line up, and it's never done that before, so I look at the hood and it's crooked as can be. Tire's flat to the rim. I call my girl. She comes and picks me up and brings me to work 1.5 hrs early. With some time to kill, I log onto this site and smile realizing, as of last night, I am now the proud owner of a 1989 Turbo Trans Am.

I'm psyched....... Wet, but psyched. I bought it on Ebay yesterday afternoon. I don't have it yet so I don't know if I truly got a good deal. Here's the scoop. Let me know what you all think? Paid $23,000. It has just under 24k miles. Bone stock except for the tires and battery. Cloth interior so I'm one of the proud 187. I'll be the fifth owner (which kinda worries me) so I'm told. It looks pretty nice in the pics. Some rust in the engine compartment & underneath. And what looks like a leak in the front near the radiator. Here's a link to the car if anyone cares to look.

So hello to all. I'm ecstatic to be here!!! :WOOT: My name is Mike.

Congratulations. I've been following that car on e-bay; it looks like a beauty. It's almost certain to be a Festival car and its build number should be low-somewhere around 60.

It is definatly a festival car, I know this because in the pics he has the paper tag that went on the drivers sunvisor that only festival cars got and that John(LotusS4)told me so :D

As for the build number, I thought Johns car was #70 and I know mine is #124. That said this car being 356 numbers before mine and 523 numbers after Johns I was thinking around 100 or lower 100's. I could be wrong.

Steve

Very nice!

Glad you are here. Post some pics when you get it all cleaned up and get that Fram oil filter out of there. Go wix.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info. Keep it coming if anyone has anything else. I can't wait to get it and then put it in the garage for the winter...ughhhhhh! I guess I can detail it and see what needs to be done to make nicer. I mean, I love working on my cars in my unheated uninsulated garage in the great northeast. Esp in Jan or Feb!

Nice!
Welcome to 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am ownership, and joining us here on this site!
Good to see you now have the bug.
Now start saving up money, to buy all the crap we own.
Shirts, jackets, owner's kits, extra parts, extra rear wheels, for those slicks, etc.
Then, there's the Indy collectables for 1989.
And here you thought you you were finished, after buying your car.
Muhahahahahah! ;)
Now, some advice.
Watch out for Dave G., Jan Larsson, and Philly Jim.
Those guys buy up everything on ebay related to this car.
Not me, I pretty got it all! :)
Again, welcome to the crazy house.

Welcome aboard! This is the ONLY site you'll ever need for your new 20th Anniversary TTA! Make sure you sign in to our registry if you haven't already!

I know the feeling having just purchased one myself :bounce: You will be amazed how quick they feel once the turbo spools  Looked like a nice car from the pictures that were posted

Looks like a nice buy. Looks like the car was undercoated at one time (nothing to worry about), I talked with an original owner this summer who said that the dealership undercoated whenever they got it in. Doesn't look like it has much of a rust problem like you were making it out to be (mine is much worse with similar mileage), along the frame rails and in the engine bay where you think it's rust where there is paint just hit it with a little rubbing compound and most of the time it'll come right off. Then just hit it with a little wax and it'll look brand new.

As others said, be prepared for your wallet to deplete quickly because of all the memorabilia stuff for these cars.

Thank you everyone!!! :) I'll sign up for the registry as soon as I know all my cars details. I, like Jim in Philly, also own a GN. Bought that about 12 years ago (or was it 13?) with 29k miles. It now has just over 40k. Typical bolt on's. I just can't seem to get it tuned right with just a Scanmaster. I finally bought a Power Logger (brand new tuning device for our engines) 4 months ago. Installed it, took it out, and my brakes failed (fortunately at home). It has been sitting since because I am determined to rebuild that Power Master unit myself. Thank God these cars have vacuum setups. Oh, I was also just in Philly a few weeks ago for the Van Halen reunion show (2nd one). Ok, I'm 40 so I wore my ear plugs. And yeah, that GN "buy everything in site bug bit me too". I have 12 or 13 or 14 cases of the different PeachState 1:18 scale turbo buicks that they sold. T-shirts, hats, books, newsletters, articles, wall hangings, 2 clocks (same ones), underwear.... no wait, not underwear. No one has sold underwear yet, so I can't buy any. Ok, so there's a bit about me. Sorry I blabbed on & on, but I'm at work, and what better to do then surf the internet.

It's strange how many TTA owners have GNs! I think most of them even. And most of them have a stock TTA and modded up GN. Must be in the blood :) Mike just think when you saw Van Halen I was really close! I work there at the Wacovia center and was back stage most of that concert! :D

Don't forget your TTA gear as well! I can take care of all that! If you always wanted the TTA and or GN boxers I can make that happen as well ;)

My guess is the car is #102 and a festival car. Now don't ask how I might know because then I'd have to kill you. :guns:

You guys (and girls) are a great bunch! Yeah, VH was my squad back in the day, and probably still is, just at much lower volumes (sometimes). I certainly wish I was back stage. OK, I'm gonna guess at my cars festival number. 133. I say that because I've been staring at those pics on ebay probably much more then anyone else on this website. There's one pic that shows the rear end of the car with no plate. I think I see a 133 fading away. Any one else care to take a look and see if I'm right? I guess lower #'s are better though. Oh well. I'm still happy!

Uhmm, Well, I didn't see any 133 in any of the pics. Doesn't matter, it's cloth which makes it rare anyway. That cloth is certainly cool to see. When I got mine I had a chance the same day to get a hardtop/cloth, but I was 17 and thought t-top and leather was the shit. I obviously didn't know the eventual worth, but I still like the one I picked a whole lot. It's been fun for 18 years. It was fun tonight like always. I raced a C5 vette. It was over before it started. Good times! Anyone know what the number on the plate in the picture below is supposed to indicate?

Nah most sensible people have a modded TTA and a modded GN. :bounce:

So hello to all. I'm ecstatic to be here!!! :WOOT: My name is Mike.

Mike welcome to the board. I think 23K for a Festival car with 24K miles is a good deal. I am suprised it took so long for some one to buy it at the "buy-it-now" price. I like that it has the rare visor tag for oil changes included with the car.

My Festival car is build number 90 and indy number 130. The sister car to mine is listed in the registry. It is build number 91 and Indy number 131.

Thanks again for all the info. I'll get on that registery asap, and I'm glad to hear someone thinks I made a good move on that "buy it now" on ebay. I'm surprised no one did it sooner either. I saw it 4 days before it expired, and decided 2 days later to buy it, 2 days before it ended. It's what I wanted at close to the price I wanted to pay. I'd have loved to have gotten a hard top with cloth for the rarity, but my fav opts are the lids with cloth, so I really got what I wanted.... bone stock! I'm psyched. Look forward to meeting you all someday soon.

hey Nice Car Mike. Buy it now is what I did too for my tta from Iowa. When I went to go get my car the seller told me he had offers of equal amounts 10 minutes after I sent my deposit through paypal. Thanks goodness I did not hesitate. It has 53k on it and lots of mods. BUt no door decals (which I like) on my car. HOw did you get your car, did you go get it or did you ship it??

Well ... way to go, you'll have lots of fun.

Jarredl.
