Winged Wheel Question??

Ok can anyone shed some light on this question? Our lower rocker emblem shows the Winged wheel facing-turning left. When looking at all the stuff at indy and it shows the wheel facing-turning right? Any reason for the difference?

I read somewhere that the left facing version was used from the early 1970's until about 2008. That might explain why the 1989 is facing left, but I'm not sure though.
