Wider tires on the rear?

Can I go with a wider tire on the rear without having clearance issues? I currently have BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport All Season 245/50-16. The tires are fine when it is dry, but I had to drive in the rain this morning and traction was a serious problem. The tires only have about 3k miles on them.

I used to have the BFG KDW tires (Dry & Wet) on my TTA. The couple of times I got caught out in the rain they were sufficient, as long as you didn't go crazy and the standing water wasn't too bad. With wet roads and light to medium rain I could go about 50% WOT from a roll before they would break loose.

I did run some 255s on the back before the BFGs. If you run the wheels labeled FRONT (on the inside of the wheel) on the back you'll have enough clearance but they stick out just a bit.

255's fit the stock rear wheels just fine. I don't know about any wider.

Goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 tires all the way around give excellent wet/dry traction.

I have the BF's also. Really bad on slick road, scary when you loose traction at 60 or 65 mph.

I had BFG KDW's on the back of my camaro for about a week .... They are a very hard compound tire to me ... It now has MT radials

I had BFG KDWs on my 95 TA for a while. Couldnt wait to replace them. I am actually running Hankooks on almost all my vehicles. so far I have had good luck with them. I think they are hankook ventus HR II on the TTA. although I wanted to try a new BFG that I seen last year. But for now the Hankooks work fine, especially in the rain. Going with a wider tire isn't going to help in the rain. Bigger footprint means the tires need to dispurse more water than a skinnier tire. More likely to hydroplane.

I know they went thru a couple different versions of the BFG KDW tire but I was happy with mine. Not the absolute best on the drag strip but did well on 20 minute sessions of hot lapping road courses.
