Who's convertible might this be?

You think they would have put the right Bird Emblem on the center tail light section. And replaced the old Indy Wing emblems also.

wishes i could afford a hard top then it would be game over with low mile cars ... racers then

WOW. That is 15 minutes from my house. I will be stopping in to get an estimate for RAYDER for sure.

See if you can ask for the VIN ... Maybe this is the 3rd convertible that's been missing for years and that ASC don't have in their records :-)

And this one is pretty interesting...15th Anniv conv't. Don't think I've ever seen one of those. I'm kinda diggin' that whole back end. If only it had more beans. :bash:

American Auto Restoration, Inc.

If you look at the pictures for this one, they used a donor car to make the anniversary convertible. Pretty nice job I say. Makes you wonder about the 20th TTA Convertible? Did they fabricate that one too? Very talented place.

I sold him the 84 autoform to do the 15th anniversary convertible. There wasn't a 15 th built by autoform. He used the car I sold him and a 15th he cut. So its a real 15th. He also has a 69 TA CONVT a 79 10th CONVT 400 4 SPD. He owns a paving company. Highways and roads. I'm doing my TTA CONVT #363 is car I'm using. American auto restorations does top notch work as you can see.

I know that using an Autoform would be correct for the year of the 15th anniversary, but if he was going to recreate something, he should have used a later model ASC for the parts for the 15th. They are a better conversion and parts are more readily available. Nice job though.

He wanted a two seater. You have to admit the rear fiberglass hatch looks cool....your 82 Recaro TA is another car I found

What did you do with the 82?
I saw an Autoform a few months back at a show. The guy was trying to get a top made for it. There is no weatherstrip available. The fiberglass looks cool, but it is definitely the tougher way to go. Even my 82 is proving tough to find parts for.

Nothing I bought it to sell it to someone who Would restore it correctly. It was already being ruined. The Guy who owned it for awhile was in the military and was killed. His parents kept it for years...that's true mileage on it. Then the Guy I bought it from sold it. He's the one who painted it all black. He moved due to health reasons and left car.

I saw that car. I think the present owner was over on Earlythirdgen posting about it. It's tough to restore correctly due to the lack of parts. I still need to locate some Parella cloth for the seats. Any ideas where to get some? I know you have been dealing with parts for a bit.

Good Luck with that one. I haven't seen that stuff in ages. I have the last of the Recaro material for the 83 Daytona 500 pace car seats. The leather, cloth and Pigskin insert material, and no the owner didn't post it on earlythirdgen; that was the guy who was brokering the deal.

If I am not mistaken, the new owner is in Canada and he goes by the board name Mr.Recaro. I actually sent him a few messages discussing the restoration of our cars. He never posted pics of the car except 1, when he was trying to sell his other Trans Am. It's in his garage next to the car for sale. from the conversations I have had with him it seems like it is in good hands.

Its a TTA with a ASC firebird convertible used for the convertible parts. Its like I'm doing. Using car #363 and I have a 89 ASC convertible to use for the parts. I will be cutting my car so It will be a real TTA pace car, not just the parts transfered to the ASC converitble.

One thing I can tell you is when I do convert my car I will be doing things somewhat better than ASC did. I've been researching these car for a long time. Even though ASC cars look very nice, They are crude. Especially under the top quarter trim pieces. They just cut the quarters and applied some sealant and slap on the caps. The fenders were cut along with the side rocker trim. I will take my time, cut everything and make sure its sealed neatly. I also might not use the bulky, heavy pices they welded on the car and cut it. It's U channeled straight steel. I think it actually takes away from the handling. I'll be using frame ties(weld in).

and for all intense purposes he has a real TTA convertible. Unless it's Jeffs car. The cars were sent to ASC by the dealer.

I just won't have an order form to fill out or the $6000 price tag back then to convert it and the dealer mark up. i think the dealer paid ASC $4000 and made about $2000 on the customer.

So which ever way you wanna look at it I won't mind flyin down the road in my TTA ASC convertible I put together.

That guy with the other converitbles really like TA's and convertibles and he wanted every anniversary model in a convertible.

I've already done this once before. I just wanted a real TTA to start with... I hope that answers your questions.
