Went to the Drag strip today-10/20/07

I went to Beach Bend in Bowling Green today. My car ran terrble with the new combo. I ran 12.23 at 111mph, down 2 mph from last years combo.
Then they were closing up so I got a 3rd run. I finally got the best 60ft ever. A 1.73, which would have got me close to a 12.00 or maybe a 11.99, but I blew the up pipe off at about 200 ft . It blew off again when I left the track going down Scottsville road, I kinda got on it again next to a ricer. I had to drive home without boosting it up to keep from blowing it off again, which sucked because 2 newer trans ams, 2 ls1 camaros and 2 GTO all from the drag strip passed me on the interstate and I couldn't get on it. One of the GTO s was the one I was running when my up pipe blew off.
I didn't have time to line it out. I had some knock. I was trying to run 25 psi.
I need more tuning time and back the boost down. Hope to go again before the end of the year. Pics of my trip, it was a really nice day.

My friend has a new combo on his TR as well. His needs tuning also. He is using the FAST System w/ Razor's kit.

I am sure you will be running 11's soon buddy. You have one hell of a recipe. Nice pics :) Take care. Joe

Better be carefull of that up pipe comming apart......thats an excelent way to overspeed the turbo and wreck it. The best thing I have found for keeping the connections together is making sure the boot is cleaned well and free of oils or grease and the same for the plumbing. Spray the inside of the boot and the outer piping with hairspray.....let it get "tacky" and then put together. Ive never had one come apart since Ive started doing this.

What kind of clamps and hoses do you have? I have never had a problem with getting them to seal.

How much knock were you registering? What timing? I think it is time for you to upgrade to Julio's kit! Maybe the SMC isnt cutting it anymore. a bb61 is a pretty nice turbo.

WOW 25 pounds of boost:crazy:. Your 1.73 60' is pretty good and should help break that 12 second wall as soon as you get the tuning squared away. If you can get high 1.6's you are a lock. Have you ever had the car dynoed? My buddy put down 325 rwhp running 12.3 at 110 on a 2002 Camaro with a couple of bolt ons. You should be a touch higher than that. What kind of tires are you using? What was the temp? Good luck!!!!

Well, I got greedy and turned it up too high, I should of started at 19 and tuned from there, but I knew I would only have 3 runs at the most. I had 7 degrees of retard. And the hose is popping casue the old smc kit runs lube in the alcy which got under the hoses. i took it down today and looked. I think I over lubed it. I had the first pump seize up and I think I've since then I've been overlubing it. Yeah, I would like to get Razor's dry kit, but I'm going to try to get waht I have to work. It worked great last year, but I had more tuning time and didn't overlube the system. i'm using turbonetics t-clamps and hoses. They are 3", I think I need a 2.85" to give me more clamping room, the threads just simply ran out on the 3" clamps which caused me to have to shim the one on the throttle body. I need more time in the garage. I'm going to look into alternative clamp distibutors, I think Hose techniques make a 2.85" clamp, going to look today.
I'll keep tuning on it. It's still running pretty good for a pump gas street car.
