I am a long time member of gnttype, turbobuick, t6p,..... and usually hang out on turbobuick.com.

I have always been a huge fan of these turbo Buick powered cars..... ever since I got to drive a 21k mile TTA back in 93.... and a 100k Turbo T.....I was hooked...

I currently have an '87 GN I dragged out of a barn.... bought it from the original owner.... had 139k on the clock... It was stolen from the original owner in '01 ... then recovered hours later... missing all the interior....I pieced it back together... drove it 20k miles while adding alot of bolt-ons....then spun a main bearing.... and a rod bearing.... been down about 15 months or so.... my limited budget has greatly lengthened the project.... hopefully I will be back on the road in the next month or so.... before BG.... always wanted a TTA though.....

I guess I'll be coming over here from time to time... hanging out a little...

Just thought I would drop in and say hi...

Hello and Welcome! This is the only place to be for TTA chat! 95% of all the Buick guys I've met were all really nice people on the boards and in person. 110% of all the TTA owners I've met were even nicer! Great group of guys on this board is one plus I can say! It's still a good time to buy a TTA so keep your eyes open. The prices are always on the climb but still in reach. Funny part is most TTA owners also own a GN! I guess we are all boost junkies! The TTA is by far the best platform for the turbo six engine that's for sure! :)

Cool.. thanks...

I can honestly say.... 98% off all I have met are great guys... and would give each other the shirts off their backs...

On an unrelated note..... my sig isn't showing up..... even though it shows up under user cp.... Is ther a minimum number of posts before it will show?

Again... thanks for the hospitality....

Welcome!
I swear, almost all GN guys I ever met, love the TTA, yet quite a few thirdgen owner don't.
Chevy engine lovers, I guess. ;)

:beach:

Third Gen chevy guys hate TTA's Probably cause were faster with 2 cylinders less? :eam::whistle:

You know,
I seriously think that's why they won't bring back the Trans Am/Firebird.
Chevy guys and Pontiac guys would always stay apart from each other, unless it was to race.
Separate car clubs as well.
Thirdgens come out, and for the first few years, at least until the internet became popular, around in the 90s, they seemed to join together.
F-Body clubs started forming up, even on the internet.
Sales were dropping, but to me, that was GMs fault for not doing changes throughout the years.
1967, one year only body style
1968 enough changes to tell the difference.
1969, again, enough changes to tell a difference.
1970-1972, alot more harder to tell differences. Seats, and grille, and interior material were how to tell.
1973. Easy, colors and hood bird
1974, total change
1975, different with rear window and turn signals.
1976, easy
1977-1978, grilles was about the only way, except for taillight color and hood scoop, but only Bird lovers would be able to tell.
1979-1981 same body, just different decals, engines (couldn't tell as some didn't have callouts on the hood scoops). 1981 only by the rear bird on the gas cap door.
1982-1984 non-aero package, seats, mirror and rear spoiler color, again, only if Firebird lovers were looking. (from this point on, all chevy engines)
1984 with aero package, easy
1985-1990 regular Trans Ams. seats and now, only way to tell, is bu looking at the vin. (Humm, we are now at 5 years before big changes.)
1987-1990 GTAs, look at the vin, not all 1987 had paddle mirrors.
1991-1992 look at the vin, few color changes.
1993-1997 kinda hard, but for vins (Gee, not we are at 5 years again)
1998-2002 again, kinda hard, but for looking at the vin.
If Pontiac/GM had done more body changes, and possibly if Pontiac had kept their own engines, I'm sure sales would have gone up.
To figure out engines would have been to have both be able to pass smog for places like California.
Sales always drop before a complete changeover to a new bodystyle.
GM now thinks, thank to Putz, that Pontiac would be able to sell few cars, and would take away from the Camaro.
Chevy will have the Vette and Camaro.
Yet they call Pontiac the performance division?
I sure don't get it.

My rant,

:beach:

just my opinion

Yes and no. I think most 3rd gen owners should be split up by age and means(as in disposable income) before we can truly call them haters.
The older owners seem to either collect and restore as thier means reflect, and the younger owners daily drive them and sometimes can barely keep them road worthy.

To the older 3rd gen guy the TTA is a Yeti, rarely seen and certainly feared. Highly sought after but rarely purchased. If there is distain towards the TTA from an older 3rd gen collector it's because they are buried under the cost of purchase/resto/modification of thier 3rd gen as compared to it's value on the market today. And when I say older, I mean subjectively older and to me that means 30+ to 65.

The younger 3rd gen owner may hate them purely because of testosterone, and well, that's what young bucks do. Fight. Most don't even know what is under the hood of a TTA, let alone ever see one. They are simply reacting to what someone else has told them about TTA's and how fast they are. Well, to a young 3rd gen owner with a fancy chrome edelbrock valve covers on his IROC "them are fightin' words"

NOTE: when I say younger, I mean present company excluded...you guys are true exceptions to the young buck comments. I'm talking about the angry dudes over at 3rdgen.org

That 21k mile TTA I was referring to in my first post... got sold to his cousin a few months later.... at the time I had a low 13 sec S10 Blazer with a 350/700R4/4.10 posi (GN rear).... I was at the local track with my ET Streets on... the new owner of the TTA (the cousin) brought the car to see what she would do.... original dryrotted gatorbacks mind you... the only mod was taking the air filter and lid out for the run.... My Blazer would leave like mad (1.81 60' time)... so I blistered the rookie out of the hole... he spun real bad...cut a 2.10 or so 60' time... and still managed like 13.50 @ 105 or so.... I did beat him.... I ran a 13.30 or so.... at 101.... he was reeling me in like I was dragging anchor.... he just ran out of room.... I tell you I had mucho respect :worthy: for a bone stock (even the chip) TTA with dryrotted tires go that fast with such a poor 60' time.... I really think it had a 12 in it if he would have put my ET streets on...

Top that off with a top speed of 162 mph.... bone stock.... that thing was way ahead of it's time IMHO.... I read somewhere that the TTA was the first bone stock off the showroom car to pace the Indy 500...... prior to that.... any actual pace car had some tweaks that gave it some more power over the ones that got sold to the public.

That.... is awesome! .... I want one!
