What is a good replacement turbo for my tta. I have a 3 inch dp and ported throttlebody and plenum. would be willing to swap the converter. needs to be streetable. its 140 miles to the nearest track :(

Since ball bearing turbos are available, I'd go like a 61mm or a 6266 or something there about.

FYI
I run a CPT BB 61 from Cotton's. I run a NL 2800 convertor with no lag.
Spools great even through stock muffler, which I'm still using. ( I have an elec cutout when racing), my motor has never been opened so, all stock internals, with 3" DP and alky inj., 60# injectors and matcning chip from turbotweak.

Im still unsure size of turbo, lets say you can make ported stock heads 500rwhp so why you need like 6262 or bigger? 5858 is good for that power, so what are the advantages, disadvantages 6262 vs 5858?

I think you can make over 500 on ported an polished heads

Ok. i have done lots of reading for this issue. So correct if im wrong. 5858B is like te60 but spooling earlier so it make similar power in hole rpm range but earlier. 6262b is spooling like te60 but makes more power in hole rpm range and needs heads/cam/cooler to do so. Of course you need 3" dp to do all this and heads are flowing that 500rwhp.
5858 vs 6262:
5858 is spooling ~1000rpm earlier and that rpm makes more power but when 6262 starts spooling lets say 3000rpm its need maybe 500rpm more to start make more power than 5858.

I wasnt saying the turbo you said could do better than a suprecedded turbo. Im saying my heads can flow way over 500hp!

my lil te 60 got 1.55 60fts on 275/50's

I got a 70 GTQ on my ported stock headed tta

I have ran a 1.50 sixty foot with champion ported stock tta heads. I did have a trans break and built rear end though. I am sure I can get a 1.4X sixty foot if the track is prepped well. I am at 2200" above sea level too.

I don't think my combo will go nines.... My heads are likely maxed out as well as my turbo 6766, even with a 1.4 sixty foot I think I'll only be low to mid tens

@ rat fink ! How fast is your car in the 1/4? Mine is all stock and the only thing on the motor I want to change is valve springs. I'm not getting crazy ! Well thats what I say now. LMAO Thanks

Someone has a ta49 on ebay. is that something I should be looking for? I don't understand the numbers.

+1 Ratfink

Tnetics makes the 61(65). Comes with smaller tnetics .63 like garrett (close to the older PTE 6176 using the garrett housing). Spool up will be great. I'd order a 9/11 converter from TCS. Tell them you would like it a little loose for the 200r4. Prolly come in between 24-2600 @ 1 psi using the footbrake. Converter is $670 shipped. Make sure you get the billet cover.

Jack might throw in a free actuator. hint hint

You are looking at around $2000 for a fresh new setup that should last for years.

Some may say buy the 44/49/60 turbo and buy a Pat's converter. That might cost you just over a $1000. That's fine too.

Smaller exhaust housing like tnetics and garrett work well up to 500hp and spool and driviability is better. If you have a stock motored unopened motor those 2 housing work well and show the best power curve up to 500hp. Otto and Bison did dyno test with many turbo's...bigger isn't better thread.

Good luck and Merry Xmas,

Joe

I've never ran my new combo. It's still all stock un-opened motor with only bolt-ons.
But It's seat of the pants faster than my last combo which was a Te-44 standard journal, 42#Inj. running 21 psi, non-progressive alky inJ., open dump on Nittos spinning a little...and oh yeah a 1.80+ 60 ft ran 12.10 @ 115mph. That was launching @maybe 2psi (boost) on shitty trans and a convertor that was a Lock/up 2200 at best.

The TE44 spools great, I can't imagine how fast a ball bearing 44 spools like, probably wasted exhaust energy when realizing the new gen. 60+ mm BB turbos spool just as well.

60+ mm BB turbos spool just as well.

+ 1 Ratfink is the orginal owner of his TTA. He knows what works.

Especially with the smaller Tnetics exhaust housing that Tnetics uses unlike the other guys.

For a unopened stock motor, the smaller tnetics and garrett exhaust housing are the way to go imo. I've used both on a STOCK UNOPENED motor. Spool up, power curve and stop light to stop light "streets", smaller housing wins. On the el cheapo g-tech PRO, the .63 PTE picked up 1 mph in 1/4 mile Not enough to win me over because of the pro's listed above in green on a Stock Unopened Motor which will be less than 500hp.
