Transmission downshift

When I almost come to a complete stop my car jerks a little bit, and pulls me forward. Is this normal? It only happens right when the car is about to stop. I thougt it had something to do with the breaks, but a mechanic looked at it and said it is downshifting, and that this is normal. I dont think there is a shift kit in it. Its kind of annoying. Any thoughts?

These cars shift fairly hard, if it's downshifting hard consider it a good thing. If it's jerking you back and forth when downshifting you might need to adjust your TV cable, search around on the turbo buick sites and you'll find some easy instructions on how to set it up.

If it jerks you only when your coming to a complete stop, it probably will be the torque convertor solenoid stuck in the "locked" position. Does this occur at about 3-5 mph, or right before you come to a complete stop?

Let me ask you this...

Does it feel like a stick shift car coming to a stop and you feel like you need to push the clutch in to allow the engine to free rev?

I also remember you saying that you needed to give the car ALOT of gas to get the turbo boost up.... This might be because the convertor is locked and the car is dogging down with lower engine RPMs.

Try manually downshifting the car the split second you have this issue, if it clears up, or acts like someone shoved the clutch in on a 5 speed.
REPLACE THE TCC SOLENOID and your problems will be solved.

It occurs about 2-5mph right before I come to a complete stop, so I am still moving a little.

Sorry I cant answer your question, as I dont drive manuals.

Yes I need to pretty much have to floor it to even feel the turbo kick in. I know the turbo works, because the car is still pretty fast. Its just off the line, it doesnt really put my back into the seat very hard. On the highway, while I was driving the car home, I drove up and through mountains with ease, and with a lot of speed.

Imagine this, if you are "slowly" braking to come to a complete stop, and right before you stop at approx 2-5mph a quick pull(as if you are breaking harder real quick) happens, but for just a split second. Then you come to a complete stop.

It doesnt jerk me back and forth. Just one quick jerk forward, and thats it.

Sometimes my daily driver does this, mine is the TCC solenoid in the transmission.

If your pulling to the stop sign, watch the tachometer when your stopping, if your engine rpms are dropping down to 600 or 500 and the car acts like it is wanting to die its the TCC solenoid and the car is actually in second gear all the way down to 5mph.

SO- Pull the gear selector back to first at around 10mph and if the car doesnt jerk around like it did at 2-5mph, then its the TCC solenoid.

Sometimes, with alot of driving, the TCC solenoids work themselves free, and the car doesnt do it all the time (mine has been off and on for 6 months) mostly worse once the car is beaten on.
