Timeline Of Factory Turbo Cars and Trucks

Thanks for posting that-very cool article. Seems like the 80's were the "heydey" for turbo cars. A buddy of mine has one of those 62 Corvair turbo cars. Sometimes we park next to each other at cruise-ins. Its like ancient and vintage parked side by side. LOL

It didn't really seem to work out very well for production vehicles until 86 with the GN...as far as horsepower goes. Then the article skips all the way to the 200* Dodge Neon, which I kinda considered for a daily driver. Sad that the turbo cars in the 90's were imports that saw what the GN and tta had and then produced the Supra turbo. Cool article. The 89 TTA was definately involved with the evolution of fun, cool streetable turbo cars.

That was a funny typo.. "Available only in black, the all-white-drive minitruck puts 280 hp and 350 lb-ft " :)
Great history lesson for sure!

Nice catch on the typo Rob... funny how easy it is to read past that when you know what it is supposed to say.

Just picked up the hard copy of this magazine last week - great article.
I still think that one of those turbo Cobalt SSs would be pretty fun, they spanked a lot of much more expen$ive cars in the annual Car-and-Driver track tests at VIR.

A few years back GM would have an auto show in motion here locally where they had all kinds of cars and you could drive each of them through a little obstacle course, the turbo Cobalt SS drove nicely and i beat on all the cars through the course, only the Corvette handled and accelerated better. This was before the Camaro was released.
