tie down on trailer?

Mark T-TB

Car Crazy from birth
.. trying to get ready for the T/A Nats...
This will be our 1st travel/tow event [with the TTA], just got new trailer last week (have been trailering our Tiger for 20+ years).

However, I don't see anything "obvious" to hook the tie-down straps onto in the back. How do you do it?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,

I have always used T or J-hooks hooked to the strap hooks. I then hook those into the factory elongated holes in either the front or rear sub frame rails. Just forward the rear tires or rearward the front tires respectively.

Thanks.
I have the front with a short strap around the lower suspension. I always use the spring shackle on the back of the Tiger... no such thing on a "modern" set-up like the TTA
I found some holes in the rear in the "frame" just above/in front of the exhaust tips... seems pretty sturdy(?). Looks like someone had a hook in at least one of them at some time in the past.

I will also take a look for those elongate holes... but don't have any T or J hooks (yet?).

I'm not a fan of hooking onto suspension to ratchet a car down on a trailer, I just don't like the strain it puts on it. And I wouldn't hook on so far back on the rear either. The elongated holes I mentioned are designed for tying the car down.

and you can buy those RJT hook clusters other places too, just that ebay gives you a quick visual of what I use. I bought mine at a swap meet for $5 each.

I think the only issue I would have using the holes you found that are more towards the back is that they will pull the car down but will have less holding force for side to side and front to back movement. The holes WS6 suggests and a criss-cross X pattern works probably the best.

I pulled a car from dallas about 8/10 weeks ago too LI NY I used straps from MAC's around lower controls arms / also around rear axle tubes. use to cross straps in rear was told not best way if strap breaks could pull car to side .tying down body will not let car ride on its springs and shocks puts to much strain on bearings and car.trailers to stiff most the time. car # 838 I think. TTA #3

I followed up on this and bought a pair of the RJT-clusters (Northern Tool, said "made in USA" on the web). They seem like they will give a lot of flexibility for various cars/configurations.
I used them for the 1st time on my T-bird for a trip last weekend.
Thanks again for the tip
