Starting TTA after sitting idle for extended time

My TTA has been sitting idle in my garage for the past couple of years, and I'm getting ready to give it some much needed attention.

Any suggestions on what I should take a look at or do before I try to start it?

Fuel tank was empty when I stopped driving it, and there were no issues I can remember.

Also, I'm planning to have it painted, and I've been debating pulling the engine, trans, etc, before it goes to the paint shop. Has anyone done this, and if so, any words of wisdom ?

1. Check all fluids

2. Disconnect the orange ecm wire near battery. (Car will not start)

3. Turn the car over a few times to build oil pressure (since those cylinder walls and valve train will be bone dry of oil). Remember the car will NOT start.

4. Reconnect the orange ecm wire.

5. Start up.

Make sure you have a fire ex. near by just in case.:thumbup:

I would suggest changing all of the fluids, especially if it hasn't been sitting in a climate controlled garage. With the car getting warm and cool over the course of the day/year it develops moisture in the fluids. This normally isn't a problem when you drive the car semi-regularly because when you drive the car you get it hot enough to actually boil most of the moisture out. Check the tires and rubber hoses for dry rot.

Take each sparkplug out and squirt oil in them. Let it sit overnight.

Thanks for the replies. Changing the fluids is something I was thinking of doing anyway, so thanks for that reminder in particular.
