I have seen several people talking about having a scan tool. Will this tell me real time information like boost pressure? What else do they do? What are some of the best choices for this type of tool?
I have 2 scan tools, one is an MPSI 9000 and the other is a Snap on MT2500. Neither read actual boost unless you can convert the 3-bar MAP voltage, in your head, under boost. Both are just a little more elaborate than the Scanmaster, but all 3 read data stream of the ECM. The hand helds also display most, if not all of the parameters and at 4-6 of them at a time. Both have snapshot and record mode and can put the car in "limp home" or "special" mode to trouble shoot sensors.
Is it worth having one? If you have a few OBD-I or II vehicles, then yes. Just the TTA? then a scanmaster is what you need. It gives you just about everything you need and it's semi-permanent in the car. No cigarette lighter power supply cord and 4 feet of serial cable on your lap.
Your gonna find that soon you'll be getting a TT chip and the scanmaster makes it easy to use the adjustable features in those chips.
Unfortunately I can't get the link in this thread or the one in my thread about the MAF to work. I did go to the site and it looks like they have some great stuff. Can you let me know what items the links were to when you have a chance so I can take a look.
The link that he posted is for the Scanmaster, it's the best scantool out there and you can mount it under your dash is somewhere around there so that it is visible at all times. It's called Turbo Buick Scanmaster on there I believe. I would also get a TurboTweak chip after you get the scanmaster if you haven't done so already and let him know that is the scantool you plan on using and he'll make it so the frame rate of the scantool is faster than it normally is.
