Post a picture of your ride! Show off those TTA's!

I have a plate on the Buick. My state dosen't require a plate on the front. The car is from a state where it's required I'm assuming. I tried removing the plate bracket and it look horrible underneath. No plate on the TTA yet, before I start driving it I need to replace the wing, recover the seats, and possibly repaint the car. I could get away without painting the car, but the back bumper is faded a little.

Seven grand, it had 92k on it when I purchased it, and I daily driver'd it for a little over a year before the MAF died.

Known problems: (a lot)
bubbly rust on passenger A-pillar
black t-top support bracket thingy is rusted to Hell (got a new one, but I need screw extractors to remove the rusted screws on the old one)
front fascia has totally trashed paint (cheap re-paint job, not sure why THAT was done... no accidents listed on CARFAX...)
missing nose emblem and one Indy emblem
heater core leaks, so previous owners bypassed it
window banner was missing the side little INDY stuff (fixed, I don't even HAVE a banner anymore, stupid Hawaii safety checks...)
compressor leaks, so no A/C, either (inclement weather really SUCKS with this car, no heat and no cold! ARRRGH!)
rear main seal leaks on start-up, drips on crossover pipe and smells like Hell
passenger light motor is stripping the gears out, but still goes up and down at normal speeds (it's just LOUD when it does it)
MAF sucks
odometer quit turning at 108k, just before the MAF died (still haven't managed to drag myself to a junkyard for a gauge cluster)
power anntenna kept running so I ghetto-fixed it by snipping the power (D'oh!) so I could use the horn
typical third-gen wing rot
would not turn over 3,000 RPM (under load) without backfiring like mad *Fixed, a spark plug wire was grounding out on the wiper motor case*

I've ran it out of gas once, drove four or five miles with a busted serpentine belt, and ran it so low on oil that when I turned, I could hear the vavletrain all of a great sudden.

All of that, I should be dragged outside and shot at dawn. I still miss driving it, though, it STILL got complements and buying offers!

As far as I'm concerned you got a deal! I think having a TTA for a daily driver would be fun. My car has 79k on it so I could use it as a driver. I don't think I ever will, though. That's gotta be the only TTA in Hawaii, right?

The previous owners were fairly certain that there were once three on O'ahu (main island) at one time, mostly when they first came out. As far as I know, I'm it. Heck, for that matter, there aren't a lot of third-gen Firebirds here, either. Plenty Camaros, though.

And yeah, I still think I got a great deal. Year before I bought mine, I saw an ad for (quite possibly the same car) another one for nine grand. Even with the problem I had, it was fun to drive without having to worry about stuff like rock chips in the paint, becasue it was already peeling and stuff up front. After the spark plugh wires and plugs were changed and the backfiring went away, it was scary to me how fast the thing was. Shame I didn't get to enjoy it too much after that, though.

The previous owners claimed to have ran 13.8 stock, 13.2 with a Pitbull chip (whatever that is). Naturally, the didn't have the aftermarket chip when I bought it, but they were nice enough to install a Greddy turbo timer and buy a car cover for the car. I aslo like the way the mounted the front license plate, which is a requirement here in Hawaii.

ATR made the "Pitbull" chip (old skool). Get one from Eric @ www.turbotweak.com He has the best chips going right now. Yeah I saw how they mounted the liscence plate, that's great. Fix all the little problems and get it painted.

Poor Car. I hope you fix it up bring it back to life. heck you may triple your money one day..

Eventually. The wife is already comitted to it's eventual restoration, plus fixing the little problems the factory didn't get right. Goal... Twenty years from now, cruising Waikiki, and heads turn to see the old school TTA purr on by....

One of the TTA's here in the UNited Kingdom was imported from Hawaii, not sure what year but can find out as I know the owner, he also told me that there were 2 TTA's delivered to that dealership and one of them fell off the truck (or similar) and I beleive it was scrapped but not sure.

Yup, previous owner told me the same thing - one got dropped. That's got to be a bummer, it's early 1989 and they're brand spanking new and aleady down to only 1,549 in existance... She didn't mention if it was scrapped or not, she made it sound like it fell off the dock and into the water or something - pretty sure that would total just about any car, though.

I just had a friend move out here from Hawaii.
They had a thirdgen club over there.
Have you heard of them?
Go to http://www.thindgen.org, and look up Hawaii section.
They race, cruise, and do car shows and such.

Hope this helps,

George

Yeah, I know some of the guys on that forum - however, we've not had a recetrack for almost a year now - no definite plan on when or where we're supposed to get another track. After that happened and I downed my TTA and sold my '88 GTA, I lost interest in the third-gen forum - not much to post anymore...

Here's a picture of my car I took on top of Monte Sano mountain in Alabama. It should be published some time this year in picture.com's annual art book. Posted this pic on turbobuicks.com a few hours ago. Hope you guys enjoy!

Looks good, I like the style of it with the hood and doors open.

Oh, and welcome to the board.

Thanks man! As soon as I make it back to Huntsville, I'll update my profile with my car number; I don't know it offhand. I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible about my TTA, and this definitely seems like the right place to do that!

sorry for the messy garage ;) just wanted to do quick test at the time ;)

i want to setup my '89 and my '98 to get some better transparent hood shots... i think the transparent hood shots look

Yea that looks awesome! I was at a show over the summer and a guy had a Rustang GT and it had a plexi hood but it was painted on the edge of the hood to make it look like the engine was ripping out of the engine bay. Was really cool. At first I thought it was painted on but it was some heavy duty plexi. Would be cool to have a plexi hood for the shows. Just pull up and park. Don't have to open the hood and worry about the engine bay being touched or gettin dirty!
