Overhead console

WS6

Stay thirsty my friends
Did any TTAs come with the overhead console? I have one on the shelf from an older project and I was think it may resolve my issue of not wanting to mount my scanmaster underdash or on top of the dash.

yea was not an option on the T top cars. I had one of those in my IROC. Always was hitting my head on that dang thing! :wall:

well let me rephrase that.. it was not an option on the TTA's :D You could get one on a T top car but they didn't offer it on the TTA. Not sure if you could get that option on the hardtop but that was most commonly seen in the hardtop F body's.

It was an option on earlier 3rd gen F-bodies and the removable flashlight said either Firebird or Camaro. I had one that I sold not too long ago. The t-top version is very straight to match the roof line. There is a hardtop version which has much more of a curve to match that roof.

I'm sure George can chime in with some more details. :poke:

Pretty much covered it all.
I never thought of adding one to my car, as they didn't come with it, and you have to poke holes through the headliner.
Would be nice though, I'm sure.

:beach:

Well? being held up on parts orders for other things I decided to install the overhead console while I'm waiting. It was rather straight forward and yes, it needed a 3 X 7 piece cut out of the headliner.

I did, however, forget how fragile these pressboard headliners are and cracked an ear or two. Coupled with the general "handling" it needed in & out, and I've got another project on the list. Replace the headliner :furious:

So my question is this... what is the correct color of the upholstery used in 1989. I ask because there are about 2-3 choices depending on which vendor you choose. I've seen Bucksin,Lt,Saddle,Beechwood,Camel, etc.

Now I'm double pissed! After all that effin' around. I decided that the scanmaster looks stupid up there. And I'd have to extend the harness a couple feet.I mean it fits between the console and the rear view mirror, but it'd have to be rotated 45 degrees to be in my direct line of sight and it just looked hackish. So, I guess it'll hang under the dash so I can see it through the steering wheel. Kind of looks natural there anyways.

BTW, can I just velcro it there? or do I need to fab a bracket up.

On an upside, the overhead console looks pretty cool up there, not Star Wars cool, but cool enough. And I suppose it can be home to other controls like maybe the electric cut out switch.

I have mine on with Velcro. Sometimes it falls down in the heat. But I didn't want to drill into the dash.

I also took the wire out and wired a smaller black wire so I can hide it better. Everything is ran right where it needs to go without any extra :)

I popped it out on the dash so you can see where it runs...

sverble, why is there a piece of black tape or something black across the top of your scanmaster?

Yeah, I also blacked out the SMC logo on the Alchy control unit. Didn't want to draw attention to logos.

I will,I will...I need to get everything in and tidy. I discovered why there*was* a battery drain (I hope it's fixed) and stumbled on a very poorly installed Vipor alarm. A 1989 Vipor alarm...and if you remember, allthough they were state of the art back then. They are just a hodge-podge of wires going EVERYWHERE!! With bare solder joints and wire nuts...just a mess. And it's been my experience just to leave these things alone as much as possible. I'm not sure how they were tied into or exclusionary of the VATS system back then and I'll I need now is a mysterious "no start" problem.

But when I get it buttoned up, I'll take pictures of the gauges, overhead console and scanmaster.
