oil filter

Alot of people love the NAPA oil filter, but alot of us (me included) still use the AC-Delco PF 1218.
The new PF 1218s are now alittle bit smaller, so they don't hit the idler arm.

Do not use the AC delco filter!! I can not stress this enough! They use to be a decent filter. They sold out and had them out sourced to Mexico a few years back and they are crap now. I was using them for that original look. 2 times a year I send a sample of my oil into lab to be checked out. They check for metal and other debris in the oil. Well they kept finding a foreign substance in the oil. It was the AC delco filter falling apart and flowing filter material back into the oil!!  I was also getting some not so good sounds on cold start up I didn't like. Well I switched to K&N filters and Mobil One filters and it all went away. Napa and Pur gold are some other good filters but stay away from AC Delco!!!

Hmmm....................I just bought an AC Delco........Mabey I will cut it apart and see what the guts look like. I didnt realize they have a diferent source for manufacturing.

I did not know about that, the AC-Delco filter.
Where were they made before?
Sorry, but my garage is 105 feet behind my house, and I don't want to go look tonight. I'm sleepy. ;)

TTANewYork,
Welcome to the site!
I would love to see some photos of your cars, I see a hardtop 25th Trans Am in your avatar, and you have a 20th TTA in another small picture.
Show some big photos! ;)

I would have to do some research but it was a US company like Wix making the filters for GM. Then like all American company's they wanted to make more and supply a much cheaper product. Many people out there are buying AC Delco because they think they need to run AC Delco parts on their GM cars and trucks! Marketing works great don't it! lol It's the American way. But yes they are made by a company in Mexico and they are junk. I actually threw out some of the newer ones I had and switched my stock to all Mobil One. Fram is another one to stay away from. Here is a good test. Go to your local auto supply store this weekend. Open the AC Delco filter take it out of the box and get a Mobil One filter and take it out of the box and squeeze them. I bet you can almost crush the AC Delco while the Mobil One is like a rock. Much better built filter by far. Just the strange drive-train sounds I was getting was enough to make me switch. Oh and if you let the car sit allot and maybe change the oil once a year.. those AC Delco's really fall apart inside! I have the oil data sheets to prove they are junk!

Thanks for all your help. There was a napa filter on it when I bought the car, and thats what I used last year as well.

TTA299, if your TB runs the same oil filter my trucks 6.0 motor does, the Wix 51042, buy a 51045 as it is bigger oil filter that is the stock size except longer. The only reason I see it being a problem is if you crossmember hits it. It is a non issue on my truck and my moms Yukon. The filter is twice the size.
