oil filter PROBLEM !

justaTA

i had the tta out monday night and i am still breaking in the new motor. i have 400 miles on it and i am running 12psi of boost.
i was using a ac delco pf1218 filter. the gasket on the filter blew out and blew all the oil out. luckily i caught it and pulled over and fixed it. then replaced the oil and eased on home (3 miles).
this is not the first time i have seen this happen on a tta, and i have heard of it happening to either people also since i started asking around. please be careful!
i am going to bring this to ac delco's attention.

What color oil pressure spring did you put in the motor when it was rebuilt? The kits come with different springs. You can get an adjustable piece from Kenny Bell or if you still have the other spring put in a lower one. The oil filter is usally not to blame. What are you oil pressures? If your the same guy someone posted to the turbobuick.com with the problem. You have to much oil pressure and you are bypassing the filter above 60 psi. Nice to know you new motor is getting unfiltered oil. Also, what are the bearing clearances, they may be to tight. Did someone build it to a Chevy spec or Buick spec this is a common problem? Usally the motor will loosen up some. But I think you have the wrong spring.

I can tell you EXACTLY what is going on: On hard accelleration the engine is torquing over a bit, the end of the oil filter is hitting the idler arm, and slowly, bit by bit, unscrewing the oil filter. This has happened to mine 2 times, the first time I thought it was cause I used a slightly longer oil filter, and because of the motor mounts being compressed and old. I put new mounts on the car, raising the engine 3/8 inch, but it just did it again the other day. Maybe a torque strap is in order?? I cannot see anything loose at the idler arm, but it is polished a bit where it hits, and the filter has marks in the paint from it also. Doule check your filter, bet this is the problem. I put mine on extra tight now, with a mark drawn on the top edge to the oil cooler housing so I can at a glance check to see if its moving looser.
