not really sure what i have

My husband and i recently got this car from a family member who said its an 89 formula pace car. i was doing some research and found that they are pretty rare. my uncle did a lot of work on the car like putting a custom engine in it. i want to know how much i could maybe sell it for. im not looking for like $20,000 or anything but i would like to get as much as i can. if someone one could help me i would appreciate it. oh and i also read that there were only two that werent white and this one is black which makes me think that its probably not one of these model cars.
 
No such thing as a formula pace car, engine looks like the typical TPI engine that was in all Formulas

Honestly the car would be worth more stock, you might be able to get 5k for it.
 
Yep sorry to say, but your ride there isn't a pace car.

About the best thing you can hope for is that it's a Formula 350 car, but that's about it. If you give us the vin# we can try to help you figure out what you have.

It's interesting that the car has TA side skirts and front fender vents, but unfortunately that appears to be your uncle's personal touch. My guess right now is that it's worth about $1500, and that's if you find someone who appreciates your uncle's modifications. Good luck with the sale!!!
 
yes he did modify the body. he told me the engine was worth $6,000. is that not true? thanks for all of your help. and the vin # has been painted over
 
nvm. its a dif number that has been painted over. ill see if i can post the vin on here. my husband has it written down somewhere

I would say that $3-4k would be a high price from what I can see in the picture, with $2-2.5k being a more realistic price. Unfortunately they made a lot of what you have which is just a Formula and there isn't a lot of demand for them.

As for the engine being worth $6k, he may have spent that on the engine. It's very easy to spend a lot on an engine but there is hardly any return on your investment normally. If the car has another set of wheels you're probably best cleaning up the ones that are on it and selling them separate from the car.

They will chew her up at 3rdgen.org, and I think Jared is being very polite with his estimate of it's value. Those Lund stick on hood scoops deflate it's value by at least 50%.

That motor, or at least the heads are not the correct TPI heads for 1989.


But who cares? If you folks like it, then keep it and enjoy it!

The VIN is painted over in the left side door jam? The vin should also be in the upper left forward part of the dash. The vehicle registration and/or vehicle title will have the VIN also. Like, what other people said thow, this is NOT a Pace Car & the VIN will tell you this right away.

Unless, by some miracle a solo test mule proto-type, was put together in a formula body & the engineers secretly lost all the documentation & didn't tell anybody in upper management at Pontiac that this was ever produced. It was able to sneak threw the crusher & sold to the public, witch your Uncle stumbled across, and that would be a miracle in its self. Knowing, possibly there was something special in his possession, your Uncle pulled the engine out of a one off car anyway in favor of a TPI 350 w/custom wheels. (WOW)DontKnow:

But, that probably didn't happen, I'm about 99.7% sure, but hey you never know. Looks like you have a nice Formula bird & there's nothing wrong with that, just drive it & enjoy it for what it is & be proud about all the hard work your Uncle put into it. If you decide to sell it & pass it off as a Pace car, people in the know will think your :confused:

It is probably not true that the engine is worth $6,000, let alone the whole car.

It's worth anywhere from $3,000 to $4,500 bucks IMHO.
