Need Oil Pan

like the title of the post says, i need an oil pan. the drain plug will not seal because someone tightened it to point that the area of the head of the bolt made an indentation into the pan.
 
That's why these cars left the factory with the allen head drain plugs .... that TTA hit something, on the big head drainplug (speedbump or similar) and bent it all. Easy fix with a hammer with pan off.

Not easy to find a nice oilpan these days and if you do they are $$$.
 
mine didn't hit anything. someone tightened it (probably because it was leaking) so damned tight that the bolt head dug or scraped (however you want to put it) an impression around the oil drain, making it next to impossible for the seal to function properly. see pic.

 
I used a brand new drain plug & seal. There was an incorrect one one there. A very thick, rubber seal might work, but i doubt it.

thanks for posting the pic. the one that was on the car when I bought it was nothing like that. the one I put on it was the one that O'reily Auto Parts gave me as far as being their part # for that car/engine.

also, like robert lee was saying, it would seem difficult to over-tighten that particular bolt to strip out the area surrounding the drain hole the way mine is. my theory is that that damage was caused by an incorrect bolt tightened to the extreme. Jan Larsen, and others maybe, indicate that the issue was caused by an impact (from a speed bump or something.) its possible, but IMO, the nature of the damage seems more indicative of an over-tightened bolt than an impact. that is just my opinion.

You could be right but look at it this way, it would almost have to be a bolt that was cranked on since most allen heads will stripe the head before you can put that much torque on them, and at the same time you are pushing on the pan you are pulling on the threads.. just a thought

Every time I called them, they were really busy and couldn't get it done for some time. I think Jan even tryed to contact them but I don't know what happened.
So I lost some interest and don't think I would send that spare one to them anyways, since they are really rare and hard to find!

I thought about e-mailing the sizes of the original as well as some good photos and see if they could make one from that, that might be a possibility.:D

This one pictured is a spare one that took me a long time to find, I have the same kind on my TTA now, that come with it. The one on the car uses a thin flat metal washer, almost looks like it is made of copper or something.
But it does not leak any oil from the plug. The size of the allen is 1/4 inch.

If it were me, I would take that oil pan off and try to repair the problem, it might not be as bad as you think!:yes:

No luck at my end either I did try to contact them several times and even sent them all the dimensions but never heard anything back from them, this was a year or so ago.

I'm still keen to get some done and with a magnet on them .... might talk to some people I know here in the UK that might be able to help.
