Maf translator pro

I have the Translator Gen2, that came out just before the Pro became the widely favored of the 2. The Gen2 is the same thing but uses the LS1 MAF. The Pro does away with the MAF altogether. That along with using a sideband utilizing the follower mode on the Gen2 or Pro is one of the best mods I ever did, especially if you use alky. You can easily program what timing you want to run at 500 rpm increments, and AFR from the sideband in 500 rpm increments and it DOES IT! No need to ever have chips programmed again. If your alky pump starts getting lazy, then it will automatically start adding fuel…so it is a little safety mechanism there, but pump gas will never overcome 24# of boost, but at least it will try and maybe buy you a few seconds to pull out.
And this is coming from a guy who used to burn his own chips and had a 8-position thumbwheel with all kinds of programs on it….I've almost forgot how to burn chips now! I have had the Gen2 for probably 8 years now or so.

I've heard nothing but good things about the MAF Pro. We have a couple owners here in the San Diego area that have done well with it. But, I also noticed over the years, that a few people on the boards have went away with it too. Some folks get overwhelmed trying to figure things out with new technology, kinda like me. lol

I personally prefer the simpler methods of tuning, TT 5.7, scan master, checking spark plugs after every pass. Yes, kinda tedious, but I've only blown one head gasket in 14 years. That was only because, I forgot to switch my thumb wheel back to pump gas tune when I was running the ME-R setup.

Okay, so this is sorta like a SD chip without the PL ? If so why would they make both ? When you say sideband are you meaning WB ? If the chip goes in the Pro does it bypass the ecm or piggyback like the PL ? Thanks for the reply just trying to wrap my mind around how this works... and the pros and cons vs a PL with a SD chip.

Raymond you should come out of the dark ages and get a PL, you will wonder how you ever got along without it, best thing since banana peanutbutter and jelly sammich...:D

I know, I know. kinda funny, but I was looking at the PL last night on Full Throttle Speed. Maybe pulling the trigger on one soon.

Okay, been researching this some and it appears the two are similar in how they work though the T-pro is much more complicated to install, also not sure if its a plug and play on the TTA and you will have another gadget to look at, outside of built in boost control ( which requires another harness) they both do the same things except the SD2 requires a PL where the the T-pro doesn't, so in the end a SD2 sounds like a good fit for the modded tta and the the T-pro or gen11 for a stock or mildly modded car, but only if you want to go maf less or really fine tune, or just like gadgets...

I have the Maft-Pro on my car. I wish I could tell you the inner workings about it, but I just don't know a ton about it. I bought it with the car when I purchased the car. The P.O. did buy the additional harness to plug it into the computer, which made it plug and play. I found a tune for it on the forums on the full throttle website and the car runs incredibly smooth. I have no MAF sensor now, which does free up some room under the hood. Prior to using the Maft-Pro, I did have a Turbo Tweak chip in the car. The car does run smoother with this set up. I'm not knocking Turbo Tweak at all, because he has a great product and it worked really well, but this works a little better for my car. If you are considering this option, I would urge you to PM Turbo Bob on the Turbo Buick site. He helped me out tremendously with setting it up and I believe he had something to do with creating the product. I hope this helps.

I understand what you are saying and i'm not promoting one over the other, if i bought a car with the T-pro already installed i wouldn't take it out in order to install a SD2 chip, but since i already have the PL it make's sense to use the SD2... less complicated, or just leave well enough alone as is...:)

So I don't know how much different the install is of the Maft-Pro compared to the Gen2, I know there are more wires to connect. The Gen2 is not "plug-n-play" per say, there is about 10 or so wires to splice into the ECM wires at or near the harness.

You will also want to get the "Extender-G" chip, I believe its the G, thats compliments the Gen2 by extending the MAF reading range to 2X the stocker. It does not replace or piggy back the ECM. But it does override the timing being commanded by the ECM at certain times. The wideband O2 follower that allows you to program the AFR, basically takes the wideband reading and then the Gen2 fools the MAF reading in order to command more or less fueling. It works very slick. I have not had to tune my car in years, never fool with chips again, always run alky. Pulled it out of the garage 2 weeks ends ago for the first time in a few months and first trip to the track in about 18 months, drove it to the track and ran several 7.4x passes. Can't get much easier than that!
You will still need a Scan tool / PL, the Gen2 does not replace that.

Ok so if i have nothing would the best way to go be MAF TRANS PRO? I'm going with Harland S rockers roller lifters comp cam 50 pd injectors turbo tweak chip and using LT1...

Misunderstood what you was talking about, unless you are racing the car just get a basic Maf Translator, its all you need.

to me thats the best way to go. we ran 9's @ 138 with it.. set it an forget it. keep it simple. It would take care of 99.9% of the guys out there. To me the others have to many options. (confusing for most). Do your adjustments with the chip. ;-)
