Well looks like I can get some new tires for my 86 GN now. :eeks: Who knows maybe they will re-make the Gatorbacks next.

At least more and more companies are recognizing the cars of the 80's! Little on the pricey side that's for sure!

Here is a pic of my car with the Eagles on it now. Looks like they recreated them pretty close to dead on all around. These are from 1986! :eeks:

325 bucks each! I'll run some Radial Ta's on my 1982 Recaro until they get more realistic with the prices.

Yeah I emailed them about the prices. I asked if it was 4 all four tires. Nope, thats each and dosent include shipping.
I said thats kinda pricy to be putting on a car that comes out a few times a year and is only worth 15-20K (talkn bout my bro-n laws 79 SE TA).
What did those tires cost new? 40-60$ each??
I miss the days when people didnt try an put their kids thru school on just one part.. guess im going china tires again so I can still have fun burning them off once in awhile...

Yea I got kinda sad when I saw the prices as well. I guess to make a small run of a tire that only a small market will buy it's going to cost some coin. They figure those with the paper to throw around will jump all over them the first few years. Hopefully the price does come down a bit. The thing that sucks with a turbo Buick with stock size tires is you can't help from spinning them most of the way to and from a car show :) It would kill me to burn rubber with those expensive tires on the car! I figure I can squeeze another year or two out of mine just showing the car a few times a year.

Tires look great Jim.

Imo, original wheels look the best on the Grand National. I have yet to see anything that looks better on the GN.

That pic is boss. Wallpaper saved!

the gatorbacks are much higher tech than those gt's. I am glad the gt's are available, though. I would get them if I had a old ta that had 15" wheels.

If they reproduce the gatorbacks, they probably will only be cosmetic reproductions. Made by some fly by night molding plant somewhere under license. And sold for $500+ each. (the 255 60 15 corvette pace car tires are $450 each and they are not high tech, nor 16")

Anyway, my wish is that somebody with clout, or somebody who knows somebody with clout, could do what it takes to get goodyear to make a run of our size of gatorbacks, as long as they are still running the gatorback production for 245 45 17, it seems to me it would not be too hard to make a few 245 50 16. The tread would be the same because the width, diameter, and circumference are all the same. Only the sidewall has to be different.

Otherwise we will have to wait until the Corvette snobs use their influence to make 255 50 16 and we will have to use them. They will be a little big, and they will say VR50 instead of ZR50 but they will look righteous. And the car will go a little faster and use a little less gas.

But they won't be real goodyears probably. They will probably be repops like the ones they get for all their other ncrs vette projects.
