Hello all, I'm getting ready to change out my intake gasket as the car is blowing blue smoke. Does the TTA use the exact same intake gasket as the GN? Also who stocks our oil filters? I had to special order mine from napa.
Yes an intake gasket can cause smoke. If the gasket has failed, it will suck oil hence the smoking. It is the same gasket as the gn thank you. I installed it tonight and will start the car tommorow to see if it solved my issue. I've already ruled out the turbo. It could also be valve guide seals and maybe even blowby from the rings themselves.
Intake is done but will start the motor tomorrow. Car has 80k. It unfortunately has been modded several times. Has a newer motor with a 212/212 roller cam. TE60 turbo. Some cobbled up down pipe, 9/11 converter, walboro 340 fuel pump, hot wired. Lots of guages and buttons that I have no idea yet what they do. Alki injection which I will be selling ASAP
Alki injection works great until it fails Once. Ask me how I know. It is Juilos kit. E85 is the best mod I have ever done to my t type and I can't wait to get the tta converted
My regal loves e85. Not looking to run 9s. 80lb injectors, Deatchwerks dw300 fp, tt chip is all that's needed. Sometimes a bigger return line is needed. 80lb injectors are ok into the mid tens. Seen it myself and the injectors were not maxed either
With Alky i think you can run 60's into the 10's, but the strange thing is if you look at Eric's site he says that if you are not running a doublepumper you are wasting money on the 80's... as far as E85 goes the same thing will happen if the pump fails, there is no guarantee's on either but you will be way ahead of the game if you log FP...
Car still smoking. Can someone take a pic of the factory oil sending unit location or more specifically the brass block that everything Ts into that the oil feed line taps into? My oil feed line goes straight down to the block on this tta. My regal has a brass block that screws into the block
Thank you for,the pics. Mine does not have the stock brass block, just the line going straight to the block. My concern is that maybe the turbo is getting too much oil somehow if that's even possible. I've heard of guys usin 4 and even 6an lines to feed their turbos with so I'm guessing it's not an over oiling issue.
I don't think it be a over oiling unless its a BB, did you remove the exhaust elbow from the turbo ? I had a turbo go out once and it took a month to burn all the oil out of the exhaust.. does it smoke when cold ?
Car does have the stock elbow still. Smokes at start up. Seems to fade away. Just switched from 30w synthetic to 40w Rotella and it really seemed to help. The shaft has lots of in and out play. Do you guys notice allot of vibrations around 2k plus rpm? This car is gonna take time to be fixed right but it will be worth it.
I would pull the elbow off the turbo to see if there is any oil on the exhaust side but if its the turbo it usually gets worse not better after it runs... good move on the oil.
I have never had any vibration problems at any speeds with four different TTA's.
Might be that the valve seals have hardened if the smoke goes away within a few seconds after start-up. If it smokes longer than that, I'd pull the engine and go through it. It's about the same amount of work to pull the engine as pulling off the heads. Yuck...
I'm still using AC 1218 oil filters in my TTA - which also work for my small block 1979 Corvette and small block 1986 Trans Am. Available at Wal Marts and all the other auto parts stores.
Thanks for the replays. This car has had a rough life for only having 80k miles. Car has a trans brake, switches everywhere, and a horrible cobbled up exhaust system. Car also has a bad vibration starting at 2k rpms. Something feels out of balance. Going to take time to get it up to par
