Headlight door alignment Q

WS6

Stay thirsty my friends
I've seen a handfull of pictures, videos and my own personal TTA's headlight doors. And one of the things that seems common is that the headlight doors are not flush with hood on the leading edge. Is this common with all 85-90 T/A's? My 92 T/A's headlight doors are flush on both the leading and trailing edge.

This bugs me to no end and I was wondering if everyone else's cars are the same and has anyone solved the problem? Are the headlight assemblies adjustable? Up or down?

if I remember correctly from when I removed mine the headlight assembly is not adjustable, just the actual headlight holder within the assembly which won't do what you're looking for.

One thing that you can do is try adjusting your bump stops for your hood a little to try to correct the gap a little.

There are a few adjustments that can e made. I spent the better part of a saturday adjusting mine.

The mounting of the assembly to the Rad support is adjustable vertically and horzontally side to side and front to back. There are stop screws that adjust for the amount the "doors" close and open.

If you have the factory manual there is a couple diagrams to look at and some instructions. Let me know and I can try to scan the stuff, and give a discription on what I did.

I would expect you would just need to adjust the "door closed" stop screw.

Jared, I'm afraid the hood stops will compound the problem as it's flush with the fenders as it is now,but I will check to be sure.

Yes Glenn, I think just the door stop adjustment is what needs done.

I don't need scans but page numbers would speed up the search in my service manual. Unless it's a fisher body manual, and I don't have that.

Thanks,
Rich

The digrams are on 2C-9 and 8B-7. When item 7 on page 8B-7 is removed you should be able to find the adjusting screw. It has a plastic head on it, IIRC it is to the outside of the car. I have a spare door assembly somewhere in the garrage, it was 10 deg last night so I stayed in. If you need me too I can dig it out and snap a shot or two.

Allright, I too burnt up a better part of a Saturday morning effin' around with the passenger side. I did this before I read your reply and just "whinged" it. I got it pretty freakin' close to flush with a series of adjusting the mounting bolts of the whole headlight assembly. I also filed a little of the back and forth adjustment slot on the upper "L" bracket and that got me to where I am now.

I did not see any adjustment screw for the motor's bellcrank as it relates to "up" stop and "down" stop. So on the left side I gutted the housing to get better access and after reading your post I looked all over those pages and could not see where the "stops" had any adjustment. It looks more like the bellcrank stops on formed stops and any real adjustment would mean adding shims or some sort of machine screw with lock nut.

Look at the pictures here and I've circled the upper travel stop and the lower stop looks just like it but was near impossible to photograph.

Tell me if I'm looking at this wrong.
