has anyone had to deal with stuck headlights yet?

i found a wiring diagram.

wiringharness.gif

ive circled the area of interest. apparently the headlight motors are connected to a wiring harness of some sort. i guess i have to find that now, unless anyone knows where it is?

It's on the firewall close to the power brake booster. When you say you are using a continuity checker do you mean a volt meter, or a test light?

If I remember correctly one of the fusable link connections powers the right headlight door and the other powers the left.
The yellow wire from the headlight switch signals the headlight module to open the doors. the white wire from the headlight switch signals the headlight module to close the headlight doors. each door is powered seperatly.
If you raise both doors by hand with the knob on the door, turn thre hradlight switch on and then off do both doors close? if they both close I would suspect the headlight module is bad. if only the right door closes I would suspect the power wire from the fusable link is coroded, a coroded wire can give you 12 volts as measured by a volt meter but as soon as there is a load like the headlight door motor the voltage drops to a point too low to power the door motor.
Hope this made sense.

we just had a breakthrough :D

sorry v6ta-mi, i was working on it with my dad all evening.

we were using a test light.

we found that the only way to see what was really happening was to use it with everything plugged in. there are 2 wires going to each headlight motor. when nothing is happening, they are both hot. when the signal is given to raise the headlights, one is hot and the other is not. when the signal is given to lower, the opposite wire is hot and the other is not. ocne the headlamp is up or down, both wires become hot and the motor stops.

at least, thats how it is on the fully functional passenger side.

on the drivers side, both wires are hot no matter what.

when i first connected the motor with the paperclip holding in both brushings, it shorted it out and blew a fuse. apparently those headlamp modules are very vulnerable from what ive read. i likely damaged it when that happened. Top-DownSolutions.com sells refurbished modules for $60, im gonna have em overnight a couple. from what ive read people posting, they accidentally created shorts when doing this and had to replace their modules, and then everything worked fine. im hoping thats my case, and i can elave this mess behind!

if it doesnt fix it though, look for me in the news because ill probably go temporarily insane, and who knows what will happen then :guns:

ive had a new headlight control module in for a while now, and its resolved this :) headlights are back to normal.

(forgot to update this...)
