I know there's a bunch of folks here with a lot of turbo experience... My last 2 trucks were turbo charged, but thankfully never had to work on them. I've installed a supercharger on a SSR I used to have, so I do have skills. Anyway, I bought a TTA about a month and a half ago, from Mershon's in OH. I has less than 16,000 miles and I'm the 3rd owner. It appears to have been extremely well cared for. When I got it here, I put it on jack stands and started draining all the fluids, and what not to make sure everything was in tip top shape. Long story short, I've had 2 major surgeries in the last month, my neck and then my stomach, and have just been able to get back to the car. In a nut shell, my boost gauge doesn't move, I can't hear any turbo whirl, and I noticed on the wastegate solenoid there's a vacuum hose on the bottom outlet, but there's another outlet above it with nothing. I looked everywhere for another vacuum hose but couldn't find anything. I started it for the first time this evening and these are my issues. I'm still pretty weak from the surgeries, but really want to get my new baby perfect. Anybody have any opinions? Thanks in advance.
 
Hi Kenny, On the wastegate solenoid the other fitting is for a foam filter, so that has no affect on boost. If you have a stock set up here is a diagram coming off the "Y" at the boost lines. Hope this helps and wish you have a speedy recovery!

Thanks Mike. I noticed in the shop manual that the boost sensor is supposed to be center on the front of dash.. which means on the firewall. Right off I didn't see anything at center. You can see in the picture that the engine bay looks like it hasn't been toyed with. All I found from my initial evaluation was it had a K&N air filter, a test pipe in place of the catalytic converter...darn... and the brake booster vacuum hose was off. Anyway any help would be appreciated.
 
Not sure what you mean by a boost sensor but the gauge gets it's signal from the 3-bar map sensor by the AC housing, even when they worked they wasn't accurate, check all the vacuum lines for cracks, etc., if they turn your fingers black when you rub them they are no good, nice car, have fun!

Robert, I found the "turbo boost sensor" on page 8A-81-0 in the Trans Am 20th Anniversary service manual supplement. I don't know.... I go check to see where the MAP sensor is and see if everything seems to be hooked up. Thanks.
 
FWIW i have had 4 diffrent TTA's in the last 3yrs and the fac. boost gauge didn't work on none of them... and i tried to make them work but no luck.

My car had a similar issue when I bought it. It was a bad MAP sensor. Not saying that this is what you're experiencing, but from your description it sounds just like what happened with my car.

You can order MAP sensors from NAPA and other auto parts stores. You can also find them offered on eBay (see link for example). Stay with ACDelco.

Welcome to the board and I hope you get to feeling better. When you do get to feeling better try to post as many detailed photos and pictures of your concerns. That will help tremendously for everyone here to help you.
