Finally got started..

Looks like a good start. I wondered if you had built it yet, never mentioned anything about it for a long time. 30 x 40 is a good size. But you will fill it up quick. I dont think there is anything such as "too big of a garage.":)
 
A two month illness set it back a bit, now everything is more expensive than last year, that's about 50 ton of crush@run at $360 per 18 ton load... i'm sure concrete is more as well but i think i will get it all done for less than 20k (turnkey)
I was hoping to build it 40x40... but at least i can get 2 car's front to back each side.

there isnt ... if u do have a big garage u will have people want to store stuff in it ask how i know .... now my dads if full ... I usta leave one car on the lift where i could get it out .. and im guessing its a 150 x 80 ... usta could open the door an 60ft my car lol

We built a 40x50 with 16' walls 2 years ago...love the garage but people who never came over before now want to come over and work on there crap and try to store there stuff at the same time...guess they figure "well since I'm here,,can I put this someplace?'

NOT,,,,I've got a "Coon Ass Cajun" red head for a wife,,,,,,tick her off and it's like a pit bull going after a cat.

Sort of like if you win the lottery, you suddenly have all these "friends". We havent had any problems with people wanting to put their stuff here. But we have had more "visitors" than usual who want to see "the new garage" and some nosey ass neighbors that wouldnt give you the time of day, that suddenly just "stopped by to say hi".
 
Well you have to start at the highest point on the front so that water can't run in, in this case that was the right front, then set your form 3-4" above that.

When i shot it with a transit there was a 17" fall from the right front to the left rear (keep in mind you have to scrape the grass off) hence the 12-18" of rock in the back half.
The frost line in the south is 3", so i thought i was safe digging the footing down 6" until the inspector showed up and failed it saying it had to be min. 12" below undisturbed soil.

Another stupid rule is you have to have 1" fall every 10' from back to front, which raised it 4" more, so from the top of the slab in the back to the bottom of the footer is about 3ft, which mean's it took at least 15yds in the footer alone..:boxed: combine that with the #4 rebar and fiber mix concrete, it's not going anywhere anytime soon...

same here = why I alaways keep the door locked and dont let lookers in
 
That sucks that you had to put a pitch in the floor. It would have been nice to have a true level floor in case you ever got into a project that needed it as a reference.. I guess you need to compensate for that if you put a lift in also.

Yeah it not only suck's but it was a PITA to form and pour...their reasoning is if you spill gas etc. it will run out the front, make's no sense to me as i would think the fume's would be a bigger issue...:explosion:
 
Got a little bit done today, the 30' wide truss's arrived at 5:30 pm today, what the hell? better late than never i guess...

That's what i call buzzard luck... the last pic is 308 wanting out of the tent...
 
Aw yes Robert, it has been pouring the rain here all weekend. I wanted to go to the spring turkey run at Daytona and got rained out. Your garage looks good!:toot:

It has 9' sidewall's, no plans for a lift cept' the low lift under the carport
Yeah Mike unbeliveable rain, non-stop, relentless, really pissing me off...:mad: now tomorrow we will have 40mph winds...:censor:

Good work taking care of that drought :wall:... you could be a local hero(?)

Nice progress on the garage - in spite of the weather.
 
Good luck with the rest of the build project, even with he rain it will all be worth it in the end. I love my garage, esp in winter for projects while I wait for summer. Helps pass the time. Maggi and I tell ppl we are garage folk cause we hang out in it so much lol.
 
Yep, weather here in Atlanta is not the greatest lately. That storm that rolled thru last Monday ended up giving me some hail damage on my DD while it was parked at the airport. :wall:

Getting there nicely Robert ... damn if I could only build one that size over here ... need to buy land; need to buy land lol
