Extra parts worth?

The car I'm looking at has some extra parts that can be purchased over the price of the car. I'm just wondering what they're worth compared to what the seller paid for them. I'm wondering which of them are "must haves" too.

There's a steering wheel with the button pad, sills, door decals and windshield decal (seller said he had the owner's kit then said he had these 3 pieces in particular), original plug wires, service manuals and engine CD ROM and a pair of rear rims. He says he paid $1800 for all that.

Does that sound about right? I know the rims are pretty inexpensive, maybe $200 for the pair, tops? The steering wheel pads I see on ebay for around 40 bucks but the wheel I have no idea. The sills again I have no idea, the wires I saw one set which sold for $125, the manuals (if he has them all) are worth $200 maybe? I've read here the owner's kit is worth up to $900 but if it's just the 3 decals are they worth anywhere near that?

I'll take the advice of the experts here!
 
I think you have the right idea. Break it down per piece and add up the total. I bought a set of wheels for $125 shipped and paid $75 to paint the centers (not perfect but good enough for my ET streets).

What is the owners kit missing? Key fob, cassette, and letter of congrats. Am I missing anything? With those items I was thinking $700 but I admit I haven't looked for one in a while - what does it cost to replace those missing items?

When I bought my car 10 years ago the owner did the same thing to me. "I'll sell you the car for what you want to pay but I'm planning to charge $200 extra for the extra set of new plug wires." My dad teased me for 10 years about paying $200 for those wires. This summer I sold them to a member of this board for $300 (new in box). Realistically if you consider inflation (and how much I really should have used the money for other purposes as a full time student in college) I didn't actually make anything but I at least got my investment back.

I haven't even bought the car and I have a chance to sell parts from it! Nice!! Are the sills something that is often damaged? What's a fair price so I know what to tell him when he informs me of he paid for them? He might have gotten screwed on everything he bought and I don't want to get screwed in turn!

They crack at mounting holes on each end. Typical for all 3rd gen cars.

Sets in any color that aren't cracked sell for $30-60 a pair but will need re-dyded.

There is a fix to prevent this though.

Rich,what is the trick to prevent cracking ? My drivers side sill is cracked and I bought one last year that is not cracked. I have been afraid to put it on because I dont want it to crack.
Any advise on how to keep it from cracking would be appreciated.

Try building up the backside with nylon washers so you can't depress and stress the area while tighening the screws.
 
Yes, that may work too.

I saw this fix on 3rd gen; on an uncracked sill plate you'll flip it upside down and see the outer mounting bosses with the holes for the screw in the center. Fill that area with 2-part plastic epoxy till flush. Don't fill the hole just the gusseted area(s).

I did that on a set for the convertible and they have survived alot of standing on by my daughter and wife. I also didn't crank the sill plate screw(s) too tight, I just got them snugged up.

I would say you get a good pair for average $50 USD give or take a few $.
 
Thanks! I have a feeling he paid way more than the parts he has are worth so I have no intention of doing the same from him.
