I was trying to figure out if any TTA's were exported new. I recently saw one with a canadian style KM/H speedo. Could this be original, or (most likely) aftermarket replacement? It is an original GM (canadian) speedo.
My understanding is GM never built any export versions of the TTA. However I know of at least one bought new at a dealership in FL for export to Sweden.
The KMH speedo might have been swapped at some point when imported to Canada. I got one out of a 1989 GTA as spare for my TTA in case I ever bring it to Sweden where KMH needs to be dominant on the speedo and I can swap if need be.
If I look in the GM parts and illustration catalog many items are listed as export only item (speedo would be one example) but I neever seen any of the TTA specific parts (gauge cluster for instance) being listed with a export model.
I thought there were a couple that were sold in Canada. I could be wrong and they were just bought in the US and then exported to Canada by an individual. I'd think that normally GM would export atleast a couple of TTAs outside of the US.
I think GM never got them done for export with all the compliance regulations etc for each country they would plan to export too so I believe with the limited production run I suspect the cost for GM would have been way too high to even think of building and certifying for different markets.

yeah but the difference in the certification requirements for Canada in the late 80s I believe was extremely close to the US. I'm not sure but I don't think they even had to have KMH as the primary speed reading it just had to be on there. Besides for that most of the regulations are close to the same and if anything it would just be safety equipment so parts from export GTAs could be used and I'm like 95% positive that GTAs were exported to at least Canada.
