Engine Spring Cleaning, Tune-Up and Some Scanmaster Readings

Doing a little spring cleaning, tune-up. Just changed the plugs and gapped to .30 for the boost I have it set at with AC Delco plugs the 42LTS ones. Getting ready to change the intercooler and flush it out with lacquer thinner and paint it, on a spare intercooler and add a new stock intercooler tag. Also have Arp Stainless bolts ordered from Hillco, for the intercooler bolts.

Here are some present Scanmaster readings at warm idle:
 
I keep the Alky Control set at about 6, so no KR there so far!

The street rear tires have poor traction, sometimes spin at 50mph.

Really don't want to use Mickeys on the back for the street. Just have to be careful!

Nothing beats ARP bolts ... make sure you use some proper lubricant if you use the stainless bolts to prevent galling.

When I painted my IC I stripped all the old paint off it using regular paint stripper and a power washer ... and I stayed away from painting the fins on it. I used the Eastwood radiator paint and it still holds up very well.

Those ARP bolts sure make it nice, I always use a anti-seize compound on the threads because of the diff. in the metals.

I am fixing up a spare TTA intercooler I have sitting around. I will strip the paint on there with aircraft stripper and paint with eastwood satin black radiator paint. I did this to the intercooler that is on there now and it still looks nice.Will leave the fins unpaintedl

I am also going to get one of those Garrett stock intercooler stickers from Mark Huefman and have some custom engraving done.:beach:

Yep that's how I did mine ... and that IC sticker (actually plate) turned out really good when I had Mark reproduce it years ago based on some photos I gave him at the time.

Do you have the details off your original IC sticker like your serial number? I didn't so just put 1078 on mine ... :yes:

Actually on both of the stock ICs the original sticker numbers were faded pretty bad, so I will probably do something like you did! Anyway a new plate-sticker should look nice with the new paint. A little different look is always welcome.:beach:
 
Here's my IC with the new scoop (carmotorsports.com) and Mark's repro tag.

Makes a big difference when done (looks that is) :cool1:

Jan, I was looking thru some notes that I had from the past and I came up with this for the IC tag. Don't know where I got it from, maybe you. Thought about keeping it like this or making it similar to yours with the 984 at the serial.

What type screws did you use for the shroud to the IC?

With the dealers installing the scoop as part of the dealer prep I'm surprised we not seen any documentation stating how to install and what screws to use (or if there were a bag with the screws supplied or not).

Anyway I used some stainless flange screws I had blackened (Philips head) which are incorrect. The correct screws should be hex head with a small washer and or tiny flange on them ... I'm sure I have a picture somewhere but have to look for it. This is what most TTAs have on them that I've seen that not been taken apart and replaced at some point in time.

I would go with that if it's possibly from your original IC ... or just replace the 0106 with 0984 on there?

I'm not sure if the PAS records also have the original IC serial number documented or not for warranty purposes; Scott would be able to tell us ... and if so this would be valuable information to properly reproduce that tag.

I have been using the stainless steel phillips ones, I knew they were not correct but they worked.

Kirbans even has the shroud screws with a kit, don't need the wheel well screws though.

I may just keep using the stainless steel screws.
