Man you guys are fast, thanks for the links to the gaskets. I was hoping to find one local but I think I'll have to go with ordering out of the usa.
 
Did mine about a year and a 1/2 ago (Spring 2011)...did not use a gasket, just RTV with no leaking whatsoever. Just make sure it's very clean and dry 1st.

I dunno....that kinda sounds like the rear joint is smacking the torque arm and it seems the rear of the torque is what is moving too.

Are you sure the torque arm is tight on the 3rd member?....just seems like it's an external noise.

Ok I got over my laziness. Looks like the small gear is broken I found the broken teeth. On my other diff (see pics in earlier posts) the teeth broke off the big gear. So could I remove the small gears and swap them to creat one working diff? The short links work the long ones don't sorry about that.

Last time I had to do this in the '95, I bought a new Eaton gear set, new axle seals and paid someone $200 to install all of it. Yes, it cannot be just bolted in, the lash has to be set. I read up on it thinking I could do it, but after a few hours reading decided it was worth paying someone to do it rather than me taking it apart a bazillion times wasting my time.
 
Big gear = Ring Gear, Little gear = Pinion gear :D

If you are courageous and not spend a bunch of money….theoretically you could swap out the center section from this rear (good ring gear, bad pinion gear) with the one you pulled out (bad ring gear, good pinion gear) and not disturb the pinion gear, crush sleeve, pinion preload (~12-14 in/lb if I recal) and seal. You need to unbolt the axle retainer plates and slide the axles out of the way…no need to take them all the way out. Next remove the center sections making sure to record the location and order of all shims on both sides of the center section, keep track of bearings left and right as well on both rears. I would use the bearings and race that goes with the good ring gear/center section keeping the bearings and races matched. Compare shim stack thickness between the two if they are the same put it back together and torque the retainer caps and check the backlash with a dial indicator. If it is in spec ~0.006” if I recall you are good. If the backlash is too small or too big you will have to play with the shims on each side of the center section depending which direction you need to go with backlash. It takes a little time but it really isn’t that hard if you take your time.
