how many TTA's there are left?

I'd imagine there's no real way to know, but I thought maybe someone might have an idea.

I think I've seen a similar thread, but I couldn't find it.

Jan said there's 6 in England, 6 in Sweden, and one in Germany, and one in Germany that was wrecked.

That leaves about 1541 left.

Make that 1540 including mine :D
 
I'd say around the 800 area would be a good guess. I know of 4 TTA's my self in this area that were destroyed since I've owned mine. Plus I know of 3 others that were destroyed as well. Also don't forget about the 5K mile one up by Grumpy that was in a dealership when the dealership burnt to the ground!
 
Some of my crusie night friends said there used to be a girl that drove a TTA daily back in the early 90's around WNY. I guess she drove in the winter as well. So I'm sure that car is long gone.

dang.......so quite possibly almost half of them are junk..........unreal!
 
My dad bought one in the winter of 1989 new to sale, about 6 months before we found mine. I drove the car, it was never titled and perfect. He sold it to a local family, I saw the car around town, it was driven by a young girl who lived down a gravel road. She treated the car like it was a RS Camaro, which is what her parents should have bought her. I heard from people that lived near her that she hauled ass down a pot hole infested road daily. The car later ended up in Owensboro Ky about 4 years later. A high school friend bought it and put an adj fuel reg, fuel pump and cutout on it after seeing what I was doing. The car ran like crazy and he had no mercy on the car. He didn't care for the paint or anything, just basically partied in the car for about 6 months. There was usually a case of empty beer cans in the back seat, sad. He left it outside in the elements at a trailer park:DontGetIt: So then about 6 months down the road him and his wife split, she got the car. She had absolutely no clue what it was and treated it like a parts truck. I heard that she creamed into someone's mailbox ripping the intercooler shroud off and plain tearing the poor car up. Then she sold it to a local Garage/shop, also a person I went to high school with. I never heard anymore about it. that was back in about 1996-97. Last I heard it was never restored and is sitting in a garage, apparently they are waiting for the 20 year mark to sale it.
If they still have it, it's only 5 miles from me. I'd say the nicest ones are known about, there on this websites registry.:thumbup:
 
I was at a local show and I guy came up to me and was going nuts over the TTA. He said he had one and bought it new and was telling me all these stories how he raced it and stuff. Didn't sound to real so I was just giving him the typical "oh yea... cool" nod when he was telling me this stuff. He told me where he lived so one day I was in the area and I drove past. Sure enough there it was in the back yard. It was an outside car from day one! It was really bad looking. I go back to check it out and he comes out. He pulled the turbo six out of it after he blew it up for the 3rd time and had a small block in there that blew up sometime back in 1998! I wish I had my camera with me it was one of the worst I ever seen. He had seat covers on the seats because there was nothing left of the leather. He said he would clean it with a Brillo pad and it would come up nice! lol He says he's gonna get it back on the road. After seeing mine it gave him some incentive. Gotta wonder how many other TTA's are like that out there!
 
I have two, and I heard of some guy in the buick website bringing in two or three to Edmonton, Canada. I don't know if I believe him though. I have never seen another tta but my own. It's kinda hard to imagine seeing another, it just never happens, for me anyway.
 
Well someone with allot of time on their hands could actually figure out just how many are left. I think we have all the vin numbers for all the TTA's made or close to it. You would just have to run a carfax on all of them and see what ones come up as salvage title and figure the worse for those. I've actually seen more destroyed ones then nice ones around here so I can't really see the number much higher then 900 range. They were expensive but it seems the folks that bought them back in the day who had the money... Drove them and treated them like a nice performance daily driver. Just drove the wheels off it and pretty much threw it away when they were done with it. We need Grumpy on here. I think he parted out a few of them as well!

I was talking to a guy last night about a Typhoon he was selling. He was saying that he knows a guy with a low mile TTA as well. IIRC he said it had 900 miles on it and it was a hardtop/cloth car. Sounds like we all need to get together :headbang:


Edit: Just looked in the registry and there is a 926 mile TTA in Alberta. Car #1322

no way!! 926 miles. I have a 1200 mile car DANG he beat me by 300 miles. I know there is a classic car club meeting in an a&w parking lot on friday evenings. We should all go there, that sure would be impressive three or more tta's in one lot just like the other thread. No one would know what they were though unless someone has door decals.

I believe it!

I bet there are a handfull of super low mileage TTAs hidden and tucked away that we don't know about. If/when these things start going way up in value, I bet they will start appearing.

I do have all the VIN's and the Dealership of Delivery information.
 
hmmm that might be worth it to buy a carfax and run them. I'd love to see how many come up salvage title! You up for it Rich? :)
 
i know of 2 in australia one in perth and the one i have both are 79/80 types
are most you fellas talking of are the late shape (night rider ) mine one is a bandit would anyone know how many of them ya see around
watched the smokey and the bandit series on dvd and in the second movie it was a turbo t am cained the heck out of them bet they distroyed heaps making thaose movies like the genral lee waste

Yep we are talking about the 1989 TTA ... I know there's one in Australia, one in Japan and also 1 in France. I bet there's another 2 or so in Europe .... the one in Austria is now on Germany (owner is on this board) so that would make 2 in Germany + a GTA (hardtop) with all the bits from a wrecked TTA over there.

There's quite a few in Canada as well.
 
I live in St. Pete FL and have not seen another one actually driving on the road for at least 10 years. The values are just starting to reflect the supply/ demand of them. Less cars and more people wanting them. Yeah for us. I've owned mine for 18 years but even with great care you have to keep up with any car to keep it nice if you are driving it.
