Not defending PHS here, and not trying to be contrarian...I'm current fighting with Zazzle over a new 2015 Michigan Fbdy calendar that was odered 12/1/14, and is still not here.
But for the most part, I have found a network of pretty darned good service people. My local shop for auto repairs I can't do myself, appliances, parts, pest control, chimney, firewood supply, HVAC...I have good people to turn to on all of these. I run into the accassional loser, like the cat who gouged the CRAP out of my T/A rims using some circa Kaiser-Frazer alignment equipment, but they are the exception.
More than the repair people and manufacturers, I think it's the customers who have changed. I remember the local TV repair shop from 15 or 20 years ago. When you walked in, jobs were stacked to the ceiling. He could fix anything, but it took a few weeks. If you COULD get a TV repaired today, would you be will to wait, without complaining? Not many would. If it were going to cost 1/2 of new, would you just pitch the TV and use it as an excuse to "upgrade"? As consumers, we've become spoiled by right-now customer service, reps. always an 800 number or chat away, overnight shipping, and the like. I remember trips to the local speed shop, ordering parts, and getting them a few weeks later. It was no big deal back then. People just seem to have no patience anymore. And the younger they are, the worse they are.
Rant over.
