If you go to the Henry Ford museum, I'd suggest getting the tour of the truck plant. I'm not sure how much it costs, but I went up there last year for work to look at a conveyor system and we walked around for a while. The plant is simply amazing, they put a lot of extra money into it to make it look nicer. If you go on a weekday you'll be able to watch the actual production line run.

Make sure to post a lot of pictures, there's some cool stuff in Detroit despite it's bad rap.

I went on the Henry Ford truck plant tour a while back. It was really interesting. Production was running. I know it was before all the security sh__ that you have to go thru nowadays, so I dont know how leinient they still are.
