Console fix??

Im Sure this has been discussed but I found this to work well and wanted to share. I have the common console issue with the sides buldging out slightly. The gap shows glue and anything else that it can trap so here was my solution. Cut the ends off a aux jack cable and lay it in there. I was suprised how nice it looked comapred to the old. The cable I used was a 4' one seemed to be more flexable then the short ones.

i take it apart, clean it, re-glue using more then GM allowed workers to use, clamp it and re-install

Mine didn't have a glue issue it had a shape issue. Won't u still have the shape issue when u put the top plate back on?

The cause of the distortion is that the top of the vinyl/foam skin separates from the hard plastic skeleton of the center console. This is caused by a lack of adhesion from the factory, and time/heat cause the skin to eventually pull away where it is not attached.

I used superglue and binder clips on any part of the skin not attached to the skeleton at that opening. Let it sit overnight and the problem is fixed without the top panel attached. My console is currently re installed in my car with zero problems.

Of course, one needs to remember to be careful with superglue.

Super Glue Adheres More Strongly if You Add a Little Water Before Applying It

I did what Scott did, but used Gorilla Glue. It worked great and it still looks good two years later.

I use 3M trim and emblem glue. Also wood paint sticks and clamps.
