Check engine light

I just received my car off of the transport and got a check engine light on the way home. How do I find out what it is trying to tell me?

There are several ways to do this.

1. Plug a scan tool into the ALDL connector.
2. If you don't have a scan tool most auto parts stores will scan the problem for you free of charge in the hopes that you buy replacement parts from them.
3. The down and dirty method is to jump 2 terminals on the ALDL connector and read the number of flashes of the SES light. I don't recall off hand which terminals they are but you can use a short piece of wire or some people use a paper clip. I'm sure someone else will chime in on this.

HTH.

Thanks for the reply. My wife said the light came on during her trip home from where the freight company dropped it off. I drove it for about 30 minutes tonight and it has not returned. I will keep an eye out to see if it returns.
