I'm a junior in ME at Purdue, but this last semester I took the semester off and worked for BorgWarner MorseTEC as a test engineer co-op and helped with vvt testing, EGR system testing, and a new way to control boost.
 
I'm a product marketing director for Europe Midle East and Africa .... for a very large software company (hint GM use our software to design all aspects of their cars .... and to manage all documents, revisions and also virtually simulate the production and optimize production .... and so do many of the automotive, aerospace, consumer goods companies accross the globe).
 
I work in fleet maintenance for the NYPD - still getting my hadns dirty a some but slowly getting away from that.

Right now though I'm looking for options that get me out of NY
 
I work at a beach during the summer months putting diapers on pisser clams. JK, recently retired.

Was a Pontiac Buick GMC dealer - now I sell cars for the Chev, Pontiac, Buick GMC dealership that bought my store.
 
Supr. of a sheet plastic extrusion dept. We make plsatic sheets that are vacuum formed into letters for signs,snowmobile windshields,modle plane windshields and fine instrument cases.

Ahhh... ducks.... They have duck tours in Branson, MO where most of my family is from. Last time we went through there my dad and I were talking about them and he had said he heard that a lot of the Duck tour companies were having trouble maintaining them now because it's getting very difficult to find any parts for them, is it really getting tough to find parts?
 
It is difficult to find some of the original DUKW parts but there's still a lot of parts out there. Mine were built by Ride the Ducks in Branson (they're our equipment supplier) and they had the foresight to adapt later model, heavier duty and more servicable parts through the years for the troublesome areas. We made a lot of mods ourselves through our 15 years in business too.
One of the problems the other companies face is they're smaller "Mom and Pop" types with a short season and not a lot of tourism so they don't have the capital to invest in the Ducks. We've been blessed with a great tourism location and have reinvested a lot of money in our fleet to improve them year after year.
Branson has developed the Duck to the point where they make them from scratch now in a modified form. I just sold a lot of old Duck parts to a guy in Arkansas with a small Duck company coincidentally.
It's an interesting business I'll tell you that!
 
I manage a welding supply company in CT. I love dealing with 400lb drunks at 7am every morning. And those are the chicks!!!!! Just kidding. My customers are usually really great and don't get paid nearly what their worth. Iron workers are some crazy people!!!!!:WOOT:

I think that kind of stuff will be happening to a few of us. Just look at it as an oppertunity to do something you like even better! The economy is going to make things "interesting" for probably a couple more years so hang on. Good Luck!

that seems to be a common profession now, unemployed. My dad just got laid off last week and I'm having a lot of difficulty finding an internship this summer. Heck I can't even get an interview, the last two years I've always had around 3-4 interviews and I everything on my side is the same except now I have some good experience and more education over last couple years.

My dad has worked in the printing industry for 20+ years from designing presses for printing food cartons, lottery tickets, magazines, and posters to most recently he worked with designing plate equipment like benders, conveyors, punches, and he has a couple patents for cylinder locks.

I'm guessing that you work with more small production work?
 
i do small sized work personally, printing booklets, brochures, postcard mailers, etc. our company does larger prints like banners and whatnot for retail outlets as well though. if you have ever been in a fossil store, for example, most every print in there was done by us. as for the size of the actual jobs, we are a small company so we dont take on massive jobs at this point.
