Any History on this TTA?

TTA 1077

Well-Known Member
Any One have any knowledge or history on this TTA? All I know about it is it was owned or driven by Rick Joyce and it ran the Nevada "Silver State Classic" in 1990, running a straight line top end of 180-190mph before blowing intercooler hoses. Just wondering what ever happened to it and what mods he had? was looking at an old issue of Hot Rod and ran across the little blurb about it.

I think that's one of the cars Steve (TTA850) owned at one time. I know it had a lower gear ratio rear end for the higher top speeds.

that car used to be out of Reno, Nevada. it was very trashed when i saw it last. it then sold off to New York. the buyer flew in and drove it home.....seems like maybe ten years ago now??????....

Too bad it was trashed, seems to have had the beginnings of a good racing history, not just Saturday night grudge races @ the strip, but real road racing, what these cars were meant for. Can’t tell by that picture, but is that a roll cage set up in their? Would be nice to find some pics of it during its racing days.

Do we have more info? VIN or engine bay pics? I'm trying to track down the history to my hardtop, but have come up blank (244356)...I tried looking up the dealership with the new awesome sheets on the PAS site, but even that came up blank for me. Maybe.....

I just got done reading Steve’s Old thread on here from '09. Maybe he can chime in on whether or not the car he had was Ricks car.

I got one hardtop/cloth down as been in Reno NV at some point in life and at that point owned by a Ed Jackson and that is the one Steve (ended up getting) so no 884

That is the only one I have any Nevada owner details of ... so maybe one and the same?? Steve would know :-)

Yeah, I remember seeing the original small 1 paragraph news article in a 1991 Hot Rod issue way back in high school. Well I was sorting some of my 20+ year old car mags and ran across it and it piqued my interest again. Just wondering what came of it? if it was raced anymore after that year and if there were any record of its results and Photos other than that one?

You are correct Jan, it is thee one.....

Its the last TTA I have left, the car is all there and solid with 52K miles but needs paint. It spent alot of time in the sun and the paint suffered because of it but otherwise is pretty good - of course condition is an opinion so some might not agree but I just like it cause of its rarity. Truth be told if it wasnt so rare I'd have probobly sold it too.

As for mods, when I got the car it had blue top injectors, 2.77 gears, bilstein shocks, stiff lowering springs, and evidence of a bolt in roll cage but the cage was long gone. I put the stock 3.27's back in and stock injectors but left the suspension mods cause I liked the way it handled though its been a while since I've used it for any extended driving. One day I'll get around to doing something with it maybe.

Were you able to trace its history to Rick and the Silver State rally? Sorry for all the questions, just that this car has fascinated me since high school back in '91. I knew of this car before I knew about the HO. I really liked the fact that it had a legit sanctioned road race history. If you did get the history any stats on how it placed in those races?

No right now I dont have any documentation, I should have reserched this right after buying the car but didnt think to and by the time I got around to looking into it Rick Joyce had passed away, he died April 17th 2006 after battling cancer. And I'm told the driver of the car also passed away in a racing accident. I contacted SSC and they could not help me, then I kind of lost interest. I wonder if any other hardtop/cloth cars were sold in Las Vegas? And since this topic has been brought up, anyone know how to find previous owners of cars?

Good question?

Only one I have details of having been sold in Vegas is yours Steve.

However with the VIN list on the PAS website and all the dealercodes you could try to work it out, Scott said he would post the complete list of dealers with the dealercodes so once that is up there we can find out easily ... and even easier if we got all the info into a spreadsheet as per my post the other day however that might not happen due to lack of people interested in helping out to enter all the info :-(

Jarred, I think the roof was repainted once before. I originally thought that was because of the hood being blown open as stated in the article but after looking at the car it still has its original hood and it has no evidence of being damaged or repaired so idk but yes the sail panel emblems are high.

Jan I don't visit here as often and must have missed your post but if I can be of any help just let me know.

-Steve
