Over on turtbobuick.com a guy used a 3/32 steel cable from lowes to replace the plastic cable,,was a stickee, now deleted..I did this for my GN, was a great idea..Not hard to diassemble, and repair. Cost about $3

You're welcome! For those wanting a stock antenna, you can nab one from your local junkyard too for cheap, usually the motor works and its always the cable broke. Can probably get working ones with broke cable from Hawks I bet or some other F-body online salvage yards....then do the stainless cable fix.

NOS 81-88 Gbody Power Antenna Cutlass Regal GN Mont not mine, but has been on Craigslist for most the year.

The only issue with the NOS stuff is that you are still buying a 25+ year old nylon ribbon, which is prone to breakage.

I still think rebuilding a unit with the cable is the best bet. I had mine done by a gentlemen down in Texas. Works like new, and should last as long as I do. I can get the OP his name if he'd like...he's an AACA member who specializes in Buick Reattas. Taught himself how to do these years ago to service that crowd, but has done many different GM models at this point.
