My guess would be a loose column where it tilts.

yea sorry about that it was a loose column it had a lot of play

Bin there done that. I determined that the main cause for the column loosening is flipping the tilt handle and just letting the wheel fly up. Now when I pull the tilt handle I guide it up with my hand so it doesn't fly up. Stayed tight for many years. Live and learn.

Mine is still tight, but I try to not use the tilt feature often. Just set it and forget it. I can still squeeze into the car without moving the wheel.

My column has always been tight, the only thing I had to tighten up were the screws that hold the turn signal assy!
