Almost scored a deal today

Went to the local pick n pull-havent been there is a while and was just wondering around. Came upon a 87 0r 88 Old Cutlass wagon "custom". It had the 3.8 V-6. Not sure if the valve covers are the same as the TTA-they look the same, but the driver side had a port drilled on the side. Jan??

Anyway the oil fill cap cover was identical and pulled the valve cover nuts and washers.

When I went to check out-before I could even realize what was happenening-the clerk smeared the oil cover cap with a paint pen. I'm like "what are you doing"? She says it has a warranty and they have to mark it(what?) I told her she is ruining it-so she trys to get off the permanent paint pen with some cleaner for battery terminals (?) and smears the hell out of the whole cap. I told her to keep it-she asked me what the big deal was-do you have a show car?? Hell yes, I do. I told her she just wasted a pretty hard to find part. Walked out of there thinking-what is wrong with people??

WOW, that is pretty jacked up! I hope she felt like crap after that. BUT hopefully she learned her lesson.

I hate it when they try to mark things so I always make sure to tell them I'm not interested in their "warranty" ... sorry to hear they did ruin that oil fill cap :-(

For the valve covers, there is two versions of the front one (so our driver side) with the vent hole on the short side (driver) or on the long side like on the TTA. The rear valve cover (our passenger side) is the same on all FWD cars that have them.

Attached photos of both version as you will find them in the junk yard ... first 4 pictures are of a FWD with the side vent the other 3 of the skylark with the same VC as the TTA

You can also grab the following items:
- Valve Cover acorn nuts and washers, rocker arms along with studs/bolts.
- EGR Valve bracket and black plastic cover along with the EGR solenoid
- The bracket that secures the thermostat housing (and the housing is the same as well I think).
- Fuel regulator vacuum hose (plastic hard line 90 degree)
- Rubber elbow on the valve cover (for the vent)
- Plug wire heat shields
- Fuel rail schraeder valve cover/cap
- Oil filler cap (note very few cars used the identical same grey cap as the TTA ... many versions were used during these years and all of them fit see Nos Oil Filler Cap On E-Bay - Turbo Trans Am Forum)
- Coil pack (however not all of them have the same one as the TTA but many do)
- Fuel injector/fuel rail clips and the fuel injector harness connectors

... possibly some other things as well but that's all I can think of at the moment

Thanks Jan for the detailed info! The story isnt a total loss-went back and got some of the things on your list. I also pulled the airbox- the brackets, etc are different from the TTA, but the main box is the same-I think it would be useable if needed. I took the fuel pressure regulator on a chance-it looked like a new part compared to the rest of the engine. The part# is 0280160237. I have an Accel on the car now.

Also my original post misquoted the type of vehicle-it was a Old Cutlass Ciera "cruiser", a station wagon with wood side panels. It was really a sight! Anyway took the cruiser emblems for a "garage" decoration!

Unfortunate about the oil fill cap-I already have an extra, but 2 would have been nice.

Good stuff, glad you went back ... bet you had fun removing that valve cover if all the stuff were still on the car.

The fuel regulator if part number ends with 237 and it's a Bosch brand one then yes same as our stock regulator.

The airbox I remember looking at as well a few times specially the plastic elbow as I wanted a spare on however if I remember correct they are slightly smaller in since than ours but what you have there do look to possibly be the right size and the filter box setup looks identical to the top and bottom used on the GN but hard to say without comparing the size etc.

I think I have a list of the cars and years that would have those valve covers on them that would help when looking for a "donor car" ... I'll see if I can find it and post it up.
